The only Asda I have been to was at Canary Wharf and that wasn't a great experience either. I think if you consider yourself middle class it's Waitrose or M&S Food. I quite like LIDL it has no pretensions as to what it is, cheap and cheerful.

Sainsbury mini pork pies are great from the deli , but they are overall dearer than Asda. Asda shades bog roll lovely on the back end. Will they look to change the sainsburys at Selhurts Park to an Asda, will the american owners have influence in the ranks of Walmart who own Asda. We wait and see.

The 2 brands will be kept separate. As a guess there will be cost savings with central operations and some may hurt the suppliers or producers. I suppose there could possibly be the odd store changing from one to the other but there will not be a mix of the two. It would be a disaster. You cannot mix Sainsburys market position of above Tesco and below Waitrose with Asda’s market position of down with Morrisons and it go well. Sainsbury’s deliveries actually make a profit because it’s manual and they can turn costs on and off whereas Asda’s is automated and needs to be near capacity to make a profit and it’s not there. Tesco’s apparently is around break even.

Think it might be easier to negotiate now,depending if it’s one of there profitable stores .I am sure we there will be a big restructuring plan going on if it happens .

A profitable store is a profitable store. Unless you think American Walmart might do us a favour? There’s not much land around to build stores and they have one there so I struggle to see how they’ll let it go with a Tesco around the corner and part of this merger being to be a stronger rival to Tesco.

Aldi which is similar to Lidl, the produce is going all organic. For their prices too.

Sainsubury's CEO says no stores will close or jobs will be lost "due to the merger". I don't see any point then if you are not cost cutting. My guess is that stores and jobs will close because of the "current economic climate" or "Brexit" or anything as long as they don't pin it on the merger.

They will though obviously negotiate harder with suppliers. Not only raw products it own label producers of ready meals etc. Argos outlets will open up in Asda stores as they have in Sainsbury’s. Asda customers will love that.
