It's probably the same all over the country. Being somewhat of a snob I'm happy to admit that I don't want to shop alongside a load of fat women with corned beef legs so won't go into our local Asda at all

I hope your are not suggesting he is thinking of his post merger bonus?

The theme from him is that no jobs or branches will be closed. However he knows that if the competition regulator gives the approval they will be required to sell off some of the chain. So he is being sneaky as he can finger point at the regulator when they do start closing them down (not me guv).

I am not a fan of big mergers. There is ample evidence from studies that mergers never deliver the value that the companies claim. It sounds good but the reality is that integrating 2 organisations takes a lot longer and costs a lot more than they predict, especially if IT systems are involved. (I have some expertise in merging these).

In the long run the shareholders may benefit but I do not see any good news for the customers.

On the Morrisons butchers counter, which I’ve eaten from, the beef is bright red. It should be a deeper more purple red colour so before you’ve even eaten it it isn’t a match to pricier meat.

Any Butchers will beat any supermarket hands down.
But Morrisons butchers is the best, and closest to a real butchers of the big four.
Saying that, Asda have a 3rd Party butchers in some Of their stores now..

It's all about personal taste anyhow. - I prefer Tesco own branch Baked beans more than Heinz

Dear oh dear. Because it appears like a butchers does not mean that the meat is any good, and it is certainly not better than Sainsbury’s.

The Morrisons lamb isn’t bad for the price but it isn’t how good lamb is and I found the worst time to buy Morrisons steak was when they reduce it. My god that stuff is bad and cheap for a reason. Mass produced rubbish.

I readily admit that over the years I have used independent butchers and purchased produce from farms where one pays more but the quality is very good.I do like a bit of meat !

It’s strange but Asda seem to attract a certain type of customer.
Witness visiting Asda in Sutton compared with the new Sainsbury’s only 200 meters away. The difference is very noticeable.

Naturally living in Banstead we normally shop at Waitrose and M&S!

We get the meat that we deserve and the reasons that supermarkets sell poor quality meat is that British mugs will buy it as the vast majority couldn't care less what they shovel in their mouths.

If a French supermarket tried selling the cardboard that passes as meat in the UK supermarkets there would be demonstrations and lynchings.

I am fortunate enough to live a few miles from an organic free range pork farm and a decent sized joint from their farm shop costs about £1 more than a similar sized piece of cardboard masquerading as pork in Sainsbury so cost isn't the problem

The last big merger in the UK was when Morrisons and Safeway merged in 2004.It took over a decade to bed down and for customers to get the benefits they were promised.

It's getting quite difficult to go anywhere and avoid the new face of Britain. ASDA is quite scary but we get our shopping delivered these days. My wife does insist on getting delivery from ASDA though. I have tried to persuade her to use Ocado occasionally just for the neighbours.

Do Asda have a best range for anything and is it any good?

Pork is the one meat where a small increase in spend can get you much better quality and I’d never touch cheap pork. Other meats you’re going to pay more for meat how it used to taste rather than mass produced cage rubbish.
