Also agree with the other post that we’d need cover for him in case his injuries aren’t behind him. Imagine the Scottish lad or Jake Livermore would be providing cover / options.

Imagine Cabaye will be departing along with RLC so two out. Two in please.

Seems West Ham have offered Jack a one year deal, initially,in view of his history of injuries.

Wilshire won’t accept a one year deal.

Why not? A one year deal with a bumper signing on fee, and then he is a free agent in another year and free to negotiate another one year deal with a bumper signing on fee.

He might well have reservations about his own fitness and feel that if he breaks down again next season nobody will be foolish enough to risk even a 1 year contract in future. If so, he'll want a longer contract to guarantee he gets paid for a few years come what may.

I don't want him anyway.
Too expensive, too likely to break down and is crab like with his passing nowadays.
There must be better value elsewhere

Maybe WHU were not offering such a bumper signing on fe for a 1 year deal. Unless you are involved in negotiations, it is all speculation

Yes and any player can suffer a career ending tackle at any moment.

Bolasie will never be the same player, after his injury.

Not sure about this. The specific point that I was reacting to was the notion that he would not sign a 1 year deal. I always thought that a long term deal is good business for clubs because it protects their ownership in the asset (I.e. the player), and for other amortisation reasons. However there is no fee for Wilshere, so there is no amortisation consideration. So what are West Ham gaining by offering a 1 year deal?

I get the point about Wilshere’s fitness, but there is nothing over the last couple of seasons to suggest he is really that injury prone, he played 29 league games two seasons ago, and 38 games overall last season. So Wilshere could theoretically take the money from West Ham, have a stormer, and then move on after a year. Effectively it is a season long loan where Wilshere gets paid rather than Arsenal.

All seems very odd.

Then it would be the signing on fee that he would be objecting to, not the 1 year deal.

I agree that it is all speculation, as was the original statement that Wilshere would not sign a 1 year deal.

Why not give Wilshere the reported 5m signing on fee. A contract made up of lower wage over the three years but appearances related with a bonuses package, goals scored, top ten finish, trophy win etc. This would be an incentive to Wilshere and give Palace guarantees of performance. Hodgson has got Townsend playing his best football since signing for Palace I can’t see why he could do the same with Wilshere .
