Really like Steve even though I have been very critical of him. Bottom line is criticism does not dilute support. Everyone can do better. The last window where we were crying out for ready made replacements just did not happen for some reason. Two duds and a striker who has barely featured. Roy really got him out of a hole this season. However in fairness great decision to employ him in the first place. My only concern is we have heard all of this before from Steve about the buck stopping with him, we're going to do this and that and it just does not materialise. Sometimes he just doesnt help himself with these statements of commitment. But.. by his own admission he is learning on the job and wants to learn from his mistakes. However he has got us where we are he is by far the best/most successful Palace chairman (imo) and deserves every but of credit he gets. I hope he stays a long time yet.

This is I suspect how a lot of us feel when we criticise some of the windows ending up in a very vulnerable position. Parish has made the right calls in correcting the mistakes he’s made and Hodgson was one that wasn’t an obvious one like Pulis or Allardyce. But Parish cuts things very fine, voted against the deadline closing on the Thursday before the season starts and has been on the right side of the fine lines.

Injuries have been a real test but there are a few things that we and Parish have been lucky with.

2 false forwards to begin with, the keeper situation not turning into a nightmare and Hodgson generally working miracles beyond what any of us thought possible with team performances over and above the competition in terms of effort producing a consistency we’ve never had before. I knew he’d be good after hearing Danny Murphy and someone else but I doubt many people were expecting this good.

There comes a time again when we need to be training as much of a complete squad as possible before match one.

Not that old chestnut again as even Allardyce himself has dismissed that as a reason for quitting

It’s the whiny and entitled tone of the OP. Plus the timing.

Fair enough on your part but isn’t it a little immature that the pro Parish whatever fans always divide everyone into either themselves or those who despise Parish. That is weird.

Has he? I’ve no ill feeling towards him. He did what was required, turned them from players not responding and doomed to relegation into a good unit. He didn’t fancy a transfer window and full season with us and possibly anybody else at our level and gave us enough time to recruit the next man. It’s not his fault the recruiting and delays aren’t up to scratch and that probably proves his point.

I said it then and I’ll say it now. I wouldn’t blame him for rescuing someone every season for a lucrative 6 month fee.

Apart from this season with the recruitment and Frank and taking too long to sack Pardew, I can’t think of a lot Steve has done wrong.

We don’t have unlimited finances, and we are going to have to occasionally play games to try and land expensive players like Sakho. We have had a poor season, but Parish is aware of where we went wrong. The new stadium plans and the playing and management staff are all exciting, and Parish is right, we could still finish 10th which would make this season exceptional looking at our start.

Plenty of reasons to be excited not nervous.

Agreed about a striker but we need a different kind of player, especially if Wilf stays. The critical thing is clever movement in the box, quick feet and quick reactions. I'd have loved Rodriquez from WBA who I think would work a dream alongside Wilf, but would Wilf given the allegations from Bong. I think Rodriguez will have an excellent season next year.

It's very easy to take the view our squad is thin -- and on balance I think it probably is a bit -- but we all would have lumped Sako in that group of useless squad players until Roy got him playing. And generally Roy got very respectable performances out of several of our backups when he needed to call on them. So perhaps it's not as black and white as some have viewed it.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Steve Parish has been chairman now for eight years and that excuse won't wash any more but I'll reserve my criticism / praise for the end of the transfer window

I am not convinced there will be that much early activity in the transfer market.

We are undoubdtedly to a degree at the mercy of bigger clubs getting their business done and the World Cup will throw a huge spanner in deals.

You will likely see big money spent on players few have heard off based on a half decent WC.

We have had a few successful windows and if Roy stays I think the summer will be another one. It's all about continuity

We brought Freedman in with 10 days left and Parish had more holidays than Judith Chalmers (used to present the holiday show or programme, as there was 1 on bbc 1 and 1 on it ).

Before anyone again mentions phones, email,Skype or any other modern day comms, Frank needed a face to face word and not a lot happened. We resorted to going for players without his approval or possibly knowledge.

I know Parish can do better and so does he, or he wouldn’t be saying this and hope the criticism fades.

I didn't realise you were talking about that specifically the last summer window. My comments were on the general issue of late bids for players.

For what it is worth; shortly before FdB was fired I was speaking to a mate who kinda knows Parish and apparently he couldn't FdB to confirm who he wanted to buy. He was a complete arse and he was a goner no matter what next game's result.

That said, I wouldn't argue that Parish did have a lot of holidays! And that the club needs to be better on this.

Why are we at the mercy of the bigger clubs getting their transfer business done as we aren't fishing in the same ponds as they are?

Where has Parish gone wrong? Where Parish has said himself. Top man, owner and businessman for admitting so and wanting to put it right. Thinking that there isn’t an issue is a weakness itself and he’ll know that too.

FFs,That's the point he has admitted to mistakes, and now come out with comments yesterday saying he has already got irons in the fire and also knows that the window closes early.

So Maime eagle has come on here being negative, when he could have just read Parish's comments.

What was it Jordan said,"if we had won the league, people would still Joan about the hot dogs".

Get the necessary business done so that there aren't glaring holes in the squad, and ideally get it done early - this is what needs to happen from now on. That, and the choice of the next manager, will be the test of whether Parish has learned his lessons.
