FYI All

I have run football competitions for my mates for the last 30 odd years. I do enjoy a sweep stake but too many of my mates complained including one who wouldn't shut up when he picked Greece for the Euros. It didn't stop him picking up his winnings though.

Anyway in addition to a sweep stake I tried to create a competition with a bit of skill. This is the one I have done for this World cup.

1. Select 2 teams from each qualifying group total 16.
2. 3 points for a win 1 for a draw. Once the knock out stage starts all games must be won so the team that goes through gets 3 points.
3. In addition to your 16 teams pick 4 teams you believe will reach the semi finals for a one off bonus of 3 points. These teams can either be from your 16 or 4 different ones. If your semi final team is one of your 16 and they win you get 3 points for a win plus a 3 point bonus.

The person with the most points at the end wins if a tie the prize is shared.

It takes a little work and you need an excel spreadsheet so I keep this to about 7/8 friends. Still they seem to enjoy it and you can't blame luck.
