A striker is never a good choice as a captain, even when they are natural leaders. A captain should have an overview of the game, strikers by definition lack that.

Agreed. I like a centre mid or centre back but I'm not oppose to other defenders or midfielders.

GK and strikers can do one.

Optimistic as ever

I think it's safe to say Kane has an automatic place in the team, whether he's captain or not, given his pedigree - it's bizarre to suggest this is madness; it's the case with every team in the tournament, and basically how football works as a whole; if Zaha has a few quiet games for Palace, we still don't drop him.

Similarly, every team in the tournament will announce a captain prior to the start of the tournament.

People really will look anywhere for a way to criticise the England set up.

My point was that I don’t think a permanent captain is sensible in a short tournament. I think every member of a squad should be striving for a place, and the best 11 at the time should be picked, then the captaincy awarded. I’m not quite sure how you conclude that I was criticising the England set-up, but to be fair, ‘people’ don’t have to look far to find a reason to do so.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Would've probably gone Henderson and left Kane to focus on scoring. In saying that, Kane seems like the sort of character that could shoulder the weight.

I'm glad we didn't go Henderson I don't think he is worth his place in the team. He doesn't score enough goal or make enough of an impact for my liking. He is a decent functional midfielder who will not let you down but won't win you a game.

If you are going to have a captain for the tournament then Kane makes sense.
