I'm really looking forward to it. Mainly because I'll be on paternity leave so I'll be able to watch way more matches than i have for years - probably since university so that's Japan and South Korea in 2002.

It's not s much about watching England but being able to sit back and watch an elite competition and get excited about teams and underdogs that I wouldn't ordinarily care about. And there will be spectacular matches and goals, there always is. and who knows, maybe England will give us some excitement, but there's no expectation.

I find the World Cup rather tedious.

Its long drawn-out and needs a face-lift.

I would replace the league system with knock-out qualifying games and shorten the tournament.

A final where the players are still sharp not knackered.

The public want excitement thrills and skills but the present format is dated and is a bit of a yawn.

There is a series on RT with Peter Schmeichel showing the locations and stadiums quite interesting.

Crystal Palace with Wilf a lot better than the World Cup IMO, quite unbiased of course.

I love the World Cup, but mainly because I’ve always liked watching the South American teams!! It’s nice to see our cousins from down under in it and I’d like to see Serbia do well for obvious reasons!!

I’ve always been able to support England with a passion in the tournaments, but I’ve really struggled with this England team in recent years, because Palace lock horns with these players week in week out, and it’s hard to then switch to cheering this lot on, most of my palace supporting life we’ve been a championship/2nd division team and it was easy to separate the two!!
Im going to find it hard supporting a horrible little s*** like deli ali and overrated planks like Stones, Henderson and Dier, and don’t get me started on smallingJones and Lingard

But having said all that, if the players give their all for the shirt, put in a few performances and get through to the knock out stages I’ll be back on the bandwagon with everyone else

Actually excited but I would prefer it to be a contest of the best teams rather than a political mish mash of w***.

I was going to ask the better-informed-than-wot-I-am HOLs for a list of Palace players in the World Cup. So is this the extent of it (albeit that squads are still not finalised)? Thanks.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Plenty of players who might have been there but aren't for various reasons.

Tomkins - England - too stupid to pick him
Wilf - Ivory Coast - not qualified
Schlupp - Ghana - not qualified
Hennessey - Wales - not qualified - would be there if Bale hadn't got injured, I think
McArthur - Scotland - not qualified, coach can't tell difference between quality and s***e anyway
Souare - Senegal - didn't recover from injury in time
Fosu-Mensah - Netherlands - not qualified
van Aanholt - Netherlands - not qualified
M Sakho - France - too much competition
Cabaye - France - too much competition
Soerloth - Norway - not qualified
B Sako - Mali - not qualified and injured anyway
