I'm not sure that hysteria is the right word to use as if you read everyone's comments on the situation you will see that it's only two or three people who have started panicing already.

Our first team badly needs some quality in midfield and I will only panic on 10th August if that midfield maestro hasn't been signed.

Steve Parish isn't normally shy and it would be nice if he said something comforting like "We are pursuing a number of avenues"

Agreed. Although Hysteria wasn’t my word.

Overall it still seems that there are more positives than negatives. Last season we needed quality in attack, midfield and goal, and possibly also in defence. Now we just need to be looking at what will take us forward.

We probably still need more upfront, and definitely need more in midfield - but we are no longer relying on the likes of Zeki Fryers.

Parish is under no obligation to do what would be nice.

I think Roy wants zaha as a striker now so I think another striker would just be a bonus...I think we need 2 mid and a winger, or at least thats how I think Roy will see it...another CD might be a bonus...

If Roy wants him as a striker we need 2 preferably 3 wingers. One first choice and 2 bench players (we have no cover unless Sako signs or we use our attacking full backs as wingers or we play a midfielder out of position)

Losing Cabaye we need a replacement and I don't think its Puncheon. I am unsure is any from under 23 can step in. I hope it will be RLC.

At Centre Back Jach is unproven and Dann is injured so I think we need reinforcements possibly on loan.

Striker is always a problem will Wickham return at same level? Benteke was poor but we didn't play to his strengths, Sorlorth is unproven. A good loan player will want to play and loaning club will want this. I think Sorlorth may go out on loan with us taking in someone on loan

Of our current squad listed above, when are Dann, Puncheon and Wickham expected to be back playing again? Will they be fit for the start of the season?

And will Souare be capable of playing at the highest level again, now or in the future? Would he benefit from being loaned out to, say, a Championship side for some regular football?

Are we offering Townsend to Newcastle?

Given his poor form last season, is it in the best interests of both the club and Benteke for him to move on?

That's potentially six players we will have to do without for a part, or all, of next season...

Ask me about Ronald de Boer.

As long as we still have Benteke, Wickham and Sorloth on our books I can’t see us signing another striker sadly.

Yes, I agree. But the “news” that I read was that we were talking with Hodgson about extending his Contract.

I have always worked on the premise that I am not going to get hysterical about things that I don’t know. Life is so much better then.

I agree that Roy would prefer new signings earlier, but things feel so much brighter this season. We have a new academy product to get excited about in Wan-BIssaka, we have some wages to play with, we have more than one striker, we have a new quality goalkeeper, Wayne is a pretty good understudy, the squad has some depth - sure we need a few more players - but we still have the nucleus of the side that did pretty well for the last 31 games of last season.

There is still work to do, but no need for hysteria.

Good post

In two or three weeks time then!!

I am not really sure that that would be the right time either. It feels strangely in control to me. We don’t have any pressure on us to sell our best players. We have freed up some pretty chunky wages. We don’t seem to be getting into a feeding frenzy, or being linked with all and sundry.

The only worry would be if Roy is unhappy. There is no indication that this is the case.

This time last year, we were a week in to FdB’s reign. Now that was a time for hysterics.

Good point. Roy is involved with the transfers and he will be on the lookout for what he wants. I'm not surprised that we are not buying all and sundry like the old days of Ollie. Need to tie down the contracts and a few more acquisitions and we'll be well set. Yep, some need to have a good laugh and forget the histrionics. COYP !!
