However, his release clause is way lower than Townsend and he may benefit from not being the main attacking threat if he came here as a replacement

He is a class above - a starter in the WC for a team ranked quite a bit higher (albeit surprisingly) than England. Other than Andros's mum, no-one gave Townsend a thought of being in the England squad

And after watching him put in an impressive shift against the favourites last night I can now safely place our chances of signing him at nil.

Regrettably.

Where else can you see him ending up?

Andros had a great season for us - his work rate was phenomenal and he compliments Wilf perfectly. The only shortcoming was the lack of goals.
Shaquiri is another Benteke - lazy - and we don’t need that!

We’d be made to let Andros go !

Couldn't agree more, we know what Townsend gives us, why are we talking of selling him, he is needed next season, by all means purchase another winger for competition for places, if you need to sell get rid of that lump Benteke and buy another decent forward, l thought we where going to be a club that wants to grow not sell our players who have shown commitment!!!

Because we only have about £45 mil per season to spend and at some point you do have to sell. It’s difficult to sell rubbish and I’d rather never sell Wilf.

Ideally we don’t sell Andros or anyone but this is how football works. Hopefully whatever happens works out well.

It’s all about mulla. We could get 27 m for him from Leicester if all is to be believed and get Demarai Gray in exchange and a good chunk of money

Which could allow us to then buy other targets

To me that would be great. Would prefer to try and get Iheanecho and some cash as I think he has huge potential, although I'm sure Hodgson could do his magic with Gray too. With the extra money and our budget we could then try and get Antonio and Dembele. With Townsend off the wage bill and possibly Cabaye/Benteke too we may even get Wilshire too. I believe the team would have a much greater goal threat with these changes and even more pace from all sides.

Think the summer could be very interesting.

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

It would seem from the rumours / click bait that something along these lines is being looked at but then again who knows.. We’re normally fairly good at keeping our deals under the radar and are often all completely wrong about the signings we go for.

Either way it would appear the club has some kind of idea about players we want and a means of making the figures add up.

Could imagine Benteke out for a small fee plus his wages off the books would in itself cover the Wiltshire deal.

Andros if sold for £27m would cover the vast majority of Antonio and Dembele, maybe £10m short.

So crazy thinking might be we’d still have a war chest should a certain Chelsea player decide to leave...

Out:
Benteke
Cabaye
Andros

In:
Guaita
Wiltshire
Antonio
Dembele
Loftus-Cheek

I totally agree. As many have said already, part of the art of making progress medium to long term is to trade well. That means not only buying wisely but selling wisely too, and we're only going to get decent money for players we'd rather not sell.

Townsend has not been a massive success. Before Allardyce he was perhaps not a flop, but certainly not a hit. Since then he has settled down to produce consistent performances, but these have been based on exceptional work ethic more than anything. He rarely scores or creates, and whilst we'd be silly to sell him without an upgrade or at least a cheaper replacement lined up, losing him wouldn't kill us.

Good post apart from Townsend was pathetic before Allardyce came in and then 2 weeks later Sammy Lee came in and told him some home truths that sorted him out.
