There you go mentioning the afterlife.
This is plainly a religious notion.
In all writings of all religions.
I personally think there is a spirit world but only dead people really know.
And demi Moore and scrooge.

See the link I posted a few posts up.

That is speculation. If we just focus upon what we can be quite certain of from what we know at the moment...then that's where we currently are...It will almost certainly change as we discover more.....but it's still just best guess speculation.

There are many different explanations.

There is no way of knowing if any of them are true.

To quote, Newton....one of the finest minds known subject to an education, 'I was like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me'

No one has enough information to even make an informed guess.
What I am certain of is that any such discussion has nothing to do with the Biblical God, Jesus or any other man made myth. We are talking apples and oranges.

I do find it amusing that people who believe in Biblical stories suddenly get all scientific when it suits them.

Wow religion does give us really deep thoughts even if we do or don't really do it.
Because it's unprovable either way I guess.
Maybe just maybe Jason and the argonaughts is the way it really is and all the world's a stage and the people are the players.
But again that would make you a believer.

Once again, I'll correct you. You are not certain of anything. You have opinions and beliefs.

God bless.

No. I'm certain.

Religious belief is so daft that it is not even worth discussing. If it were not categorised as 'religion' it would be considered a mental illness.

Think we’ve got a God botherer in the ranks.

What's wrong with that?

The book that always gives me inspiration is

'Mere Christianity' by C.S.Lewis

only about 170 pages...worth a read, whatever your

disposition.

God is no more than a terrorist, that is why his followers are said to be 'god fearing'. His followers must surely be evil at heart because they believe that we all (including themselves) would be incapable of being good, moral people unless we learn to 'fear' this tyrant and do his bidding, like Abraham who was terrorized to the brink of killing his own innocent son for fear of god's wrath. How cruel and sadistic was that? OK so god let him off at the last minute, but if a human being did what god was supposed to have done in the Abraham story he or she would end up in prison, or maybe a psychiatric hospital.

What is it in the human psyche that facilitates such a mass delusion and failure of objectivity? Maybe the desire to a happy afterlife is so overwhelming that we (well the religious 'believers' at any rate') turn a blind eye to god's overwhelming propensity for evil.

Mmmm....with respect though it's not equitable.

His opinion is based upon the available evidence from scientific discoveries and yours is based upon believing a book written over two thousand years ago by people you don't know with information you can't test.

Even if there were any semblance of reality behind Biblical stories, it would still have nothing to do with religion.
Religion is an organisation of people, practices, often including the worship of a particular deity, image or thing which has no bearing on what is real or not real.

It would be the same as if we worshipped or built a tradition around science, accepting the obvious difference between modern science and 2000 year old books written by people with an agenda.

Very True about a 2k year book but even some science of today might be total b######s.
Global warming being just one example.
