Well said Becky I think this dates back to Diana.

There is a reason we have places of worship so people can grieve and not be disturbed and not disturb others who are not affected.

And you are correct some tragedies are recognised whilst many are not. Birmingham pub bombings,Bradford fire, Lee Rigby, Jimmy Mizen and countless others.

Politicians feel the need to do something. We have a day of remembrance for our war dead which I observe so why not another day of remembrance for everybody else.

I don't have a problem with Grenfall as it is the anniversary and the enquiry is ongoing but I will not be remembering next year.

Two years ago, the Govt noticeably stepped short of national one-minute silence to remember 50th anniversary of Aberfan disaster that saw 144 (28 adults & 116 children) people needlessly killed due to the collapse of a colliery spoil tip that wiped out the local primary school. National Coal Board was to blame:

I do hope Tesco were offering a counselling opportunity after subjecting all the shoppers to this trauma. Alternatively you could make a claim for psychological suffering.

I have never needed counselling - born of the immediate post-war deprived smacked generation, my upper lip is as stiff as they come and so is my backbone ........ something the later generations seem to be missing altogether

I find this enforced mourning very, very tiresome. I will mourn and reflect on those matters that I deem worthy of mourning and reflection - I certainly don't need some f***ers telling me what I should be mourning over and reflecting about.

F*ck them.

I agree with Becky’s OP. I think we’ve lost all sense of reason in this country.

Another thing that made me uneasy was the unprecedented succession of eulogies at the start of the Grenfell enquiry. A formal enquiry is not the place for such lamentation.

Extending poor, working class grief to a national level is tokenistic compensation for the fact that people like the Grenfell victims can't afford to do what the rich would do in that situation - sue the perpetrators.

So how does that work with the anniversary of the Manchester bombing?

Sorry and the perpetrators where who.
You cannot just sue because you have the money.
Someone has to be responsible first.

I think the humpiness is about the concept, not the imposition.

Counselling is great, I genuinely think everyone could benefit from it. For me, it’s not about backbone, or lack of. It’s about making your life and relationships better. That is my experience in any case.

The cladding was unsafe, so either someone at the manufacturer (in case they lied about their product meeting the regualtions), the company that carried out the works (in case they used cladding not meeting regulations), or someone within the government (in case they allowed unsafe cladding to be used).

There have been significant failings this case. The first step should be to investigate what has gone wrong, learn the lessons and then bring wrongdoers to justice over it.
