Counselling is great, I genuinely think everyone could benefit from it. For me, it’s not about backbone, or lack of. It’s about making your life and relationships better. That is my experience in any case.

In certain cases yes, but this reminds about 20 years ago a friend of mine got a good hiding within 24 hours instead of chasing up the crime first they asked him if he'd like to see a councillor. This all goes back to Blair's touchy feely socialism he espoused.
Also I'd wager a lot of people don't want this option in the first place although I accept some people might.
Everytime you get some horrific school shooting the first thing they churn out is "The kids return to school next Monday where grief councillors will be on standby'

Fair enough, I don’t know much about counselling to get over being a victim of crime, I’d rather they spent the time & money to hunt the person down.

The cladding was unsafe, so either someone at the manufacturer (in case they lied about their product meeting the regualtions), the company that carried out the works (in case they used cladding not meeting regulations), or someone within the government (in case they allowed unsafe cladding to be used).

There have been significant failings this case. The first step should be to investigate what has gone wrong, learn the lessons and then bring wrongdoers to justice over it.

You are on very rocky ground.
An investigation has just started.
It is in all likelihood that this cladding, it's installation and the instruction were all within the rules at the time which means they are not the perpetrators.
Hindsight is wonderful.
There is no proof of how the fire actually started.
The fridge being the start place is not proved.
I have heard that the block was recently changed from electric to gas. If true then Maybe a gas appliance was being used incorrectly which could have been the start point.
Let us wait for the enquiry outcome and then respond to the findings.
I fear one side may be disappointed with the outcome.

That is not the same thing as rich people suing them.

Rich people do get a better class of justice, just the way it is.

Extremely eloquently and succinctly put, Becky...where does it all end? We should mourn those who we regard as deserving including friends and relatives lost in military service. No disrespect to the Grenfell victims but I'll save my grief for my father's generation many of whom were killed in World War II.

Today in my local Tesco we were all asked to stop shopping and to observe a minute's silence to show respect for the victims of the Grenfell fire. A few weeks ago, it was the same for Stephen Lawrence, and before that for the victims of the Manchester Arena attack.

Why?

What purpose does it serve to do this nationwide? Why am I expected to show 'respect' for these total strangers who were in the wrong place at the wrong time? Whilst I am very sorry that they lost their lives and that there are families left to mourn them, I don't feel that it is my place to do so.

I can understand, and will gladly observe a silence for Remembrance Day - these were people who went to war and laid down their lives so that the rest of us could live in freedom from tyranny (well, that was the intention), so yes, they deserve a national time for reflection and respect for the sacrifice they made for their country and all in it. Likewise, if it is for someone whose life was in some way entwined with mine - a fellow Palace fan/player/manager or a local person who has served their community of which I am part and who in some way has had an influence or effect on my life - at least I can relate to it.

However, this having the country stop for any and every event in which someone died is going to get increasingly ridiculous - why don't we start a Hither Green Memorial silence, an Aberfan disaster silence, a London IRA bombing silence, a Moorgate Tube disaster silence...... the list could go on and on until we end up standing still for the better part of every day.

Does anyone actually think that this is a good thing or that it serves any useful purpose, or is necessary to anyone?

The only purpose it serves is to keep us all miserable, we have become a nation of Grief fest, we love wallowing in self pity just move on and get over it,!!

And I still can't believe they cancelled the football for that.

I was driving at the time of the one last week. The station i was listening to then proceeded to play some weird background noise, so I changed station.
