My 11 year old cat got sick at 5pm tonite.
By 7pm she was gone after being put to sleep by the vet.
She got a blood clot on her heart and legs and couldn't walk.
So sad.
My point is I'm 51 and cried.
Does that make me a tart.

I posted a picture of Pepper here a few weeks ago.

She was getting treated for hyperactive thyroid and had an infected tooth which the vet wouldn't treat on account of her weight (which made anaesthesia dangerous). She was 17. In the end she couldn't eat so we asked (another) vet to take the risk and do her teeth because otherwise she wouldn't last long anyway.

When the vet put her under she found a huge tumour in her jaw cavity which she could do nothing with.

:-(

So sad, but people who haven't had pet animals rarely realise how strong the love for one's pet can be.

I too was absolutely shattered when our adored Westie terrier had to be terminated. As pointed out above a pet is a real family member and in many ways it is more upsetting to lose them than a real human relative. You can't tell them what's going on and that you are doing the right thing to prevent them from unnecessary suffering.

Just remember the good times they have brought and they will always remain in your memory.

We lost our beloved girl greyhound two days after our silver wedding in September. She was our first ever pet and we loved her so much. Just like cryrst's cat, she was fine at lunchtime; put down at tea time. I still cry about it now and am dreading the day when we lose her baby brother. I'm 59 so I'm a tart too.

je suis une tarte aussi mes amis, lost my moggie on xmas eve, it's embarrassing how much i miss him, more than some close relatives which sounds weird, but i don't 'miss' people when they go,it's different, too deep or something, but the silly way my old cat used to cheer me up and make me laugh i do miss. he was a real friend.

Not a tart at all! Losing a pet is very tough and very sorry to hear it.

Thanx for all the support
Just opened the back door to call her in.
Omg I'm sad and sad for my Mrs and kids.
My younger one in bits
He's 18 and type 1 in Jan and hospital tomorrow to check if celiac.
Maybe the shock has bought out all of his pain about his condition.
I wish it was me

I lost my poor, beautiful Bonnie a couple of years ago to cancer at the age of 8. I'll never get over losing her.

My American bulldog Bik went to sleep a few weeks back after being my constant companion for fourteen years,It really does leave a gapping chasm in your life.No shame in bawling your eyes out mate.

I agree. And I’m sorry.

The ones we lose can never be replaced, and I felt pangs of guilt about going out and looking for a new sister for our baby boy. We found her, and I confirm that it’s possible to love another while still loving the one you lost.

With retired greyhounds there is also some consolation in that you are giving them their first ever home (their “forever home” as the Greyhound Trust describes it) thereby saving them from a uncertain future. And they are fantastic, loving, loyal pets that need very little exercise
