Duckenfield finally charged

OK, im going to upset a lot of 'snowfakes' on here(more than normal Personally, im glad that the correct in-charge person has finally been called to account, BUT, who gives a fcuk? Also, I always thought it was the Liverpool96? What happened to the other one?

I find it odd there must be full accountability by hanging this guy out to dry purely because this is so high profile but when are politicians ever held to account for their professional mistakes? Why can't Tony Bliar be prosecuted for misleading Parliament which led to the deaths of far more people?

Because one lad died 4 years after the event having been in a coma since the tragedy so his death did not count as manslaughter because at the time you could only be charged with such an offence if the death occurred less than 366 days after the incident . I suspect a lot of time and money could have been saved if the police had been honest and told the truth at the time tbh. Edited by Superhorns3 (30 Jun 2018 4.14pm)

The crucial period is in the few hours before KO, when duckenfield should have been familiarising himself with the ground and procedures. In previous evidence he has submitted, he cannot recall what he was doing in these hours. It's gonna take an extremely good lawyer to get Duckenfield out of this.

Why is no one from the FA being charged. They chose the venue, didn't do an independent risk assessment and went ahead with the game. If we as a country are going to prosecute the police and the Health and Safety official of Sheffield Wednesday then surely the FA is culpable to. Prosecution just to appease the scousers.

Time will tell if this prosecution is sucessful. I suspect that this may be a step in obtaining compensation for families.I think the case of the Death of Jean Charles de Menezes is a fairly close the police shot dead an unarmed man, no individual police officers were prosecuted, but MPS convicted of H&S offences. The failure to charge or prosecute individuals in this case where the individuals direct acts caused death seems to me much clearer than one where an individual police officer is to be tried most probably on his omission to do something

The prosecution has finished. It is now the turn of the defence. Coverage of the trial has been very limited by the BBC. I particularly wanted to know what Duckenfield had been doing on the morning of the matchday. He should have been familiarising himself with the stadium and its layout, but previously he has said he had no recollection of what he did in the morning. Duckenfield did admit to periods of excessive alcohol intake in his career. If I were on the prosecution I would have asked whether he was indulging in hospitality on the morning of the match, when he should have been doing a stadium walkover.

Duckenfield has every right not to testify in his own defence however I suspect that the jury may not view that as a good decision.
