I think these are the essentials, correct me if I'm wrong:

Signs a 5 year contract with improved pay

Hands in a transfer request one year into that contract, a day before the window closes

Call me old fashioned, but that doesn't seem the way to go about it.

Him putting in a transfer request a day before the the window shut was him pretty much pi**ing on his employees and the fans.

When he apologises to his Roy,his team mates and Steve and the fans then I'll get behind him.

I'm at the game today, won't be booing him but won't be cheering him either.

Sorry BE, I really tend to agree with you more often than not but I donít this time. What has he got to apologise for. He submitted a transfer request which he is well within his rights to do so, formally showing the club he wants to leave and losing his loyalty bonus in the process. The club didnít let him leave and he remains a Palace player. As long as he works hard while he is here he has done absolutely nothing wrong by trying to leave in my opinion.

All well and good in theory, but it is never the same feeling towards a player once they decide they want to leave, if they don't want to be at Palace, they don't have that extra commitment.

Iíd suggest the fact heís steered us through umpteen seasons of relegation battles indicates he does have that extra commitment. If I worked for Happy Shopper and Waitrose kept wanting me to work for them (with nicer conditions, more pay and a higher likelihood the company will be successful) but it never quite happened I wouldnít be jubilant either. No matter how much I loved my Happy Shopper roots and all my Happy Shoppers customers.
Would I expect my Happy Shopper customers to be annoyed with me when I came back for my first shift? No. Would I expect them to cheer every time I scanned a grocery? Absolutely.

The AFCON players need less pre season theoretically as maintained fitness

I sincerely hope not!

It would send a very divisive message to the rest of the squad who have grafted through pre season that any player (not specifically Wilf) can waltz into the first team without doing the hard yards required by others.

Iím sure Roy wouldnít be that stupid!

Let's see SP and the board trying to line up for a piss in the AW toilets at half time before peddling the new stand. We're the Arthur over here and the facilities are a disgrace

I think one good thing about the separation of managers from transfer business in modern football is that in this case, Wilf can still respect and play for Hodgson.

Very true, but in his case and how he performs now will determine how other clubs who want him or were just impressed by him being shown his mind isn't as fractured as he has in the past shown.

What he does now will say a lot about him.

Hey Coulsdon eagle, yes Wilf is entitled to put in a transfer request, but he had the whole window to do it,to do it a day before the window shuts in my opinion unsettled everyone at the club players, chairman etc

That was good management by Roy to send him home,I bet he was advised by his agent to put in the request,if he had anything about him he wouldn't of put the request in.

I wouldn't offer him a pay rise either,I'd offer him the exit door in January to anyone who meets our valuation,Wilf your not bigger than the club, you never have and never will be.

He will play, we aren't blessed with an abundance of match winners and strikers scoring.

Not playing him would only move the issue to the next game, play him and move on.

Letís hope be buckles down and puts in performances that will make clubs inclined to pay what Parish wants. Of course on the other hand he may consider playing absolute dross in the hope that his value will drop and weíll let him leave for half the price.
