I don't know what age groups they are intending this for, but for children who seem to need counselling for trauma if one of them falls over in the playground, this would not be a good idea.

The public need to know how animals are treated before their death. Maybe not need but should. However, parents would never sign a permission slip to let their child attend and I can't imagine any abattoir letting children in. Aside from that, great idea.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Children and young adults don’t like touching raw meat, even with a hot tap near them. Truly pathetic. If people from pre war Britain could see this now.

Most junior aged children couldn't cope with this and secondary pupils would probably become over-emotional. Some pupils wallow in emotionalism these days-just like too many adults. If he wants children to face these key issues, a visit to an undertakers or mortuary would be an obvious next step. It's a bad idea. Let parents pay a visit on a family day out if they think it's a worthwhile experience.

I used to be involved with the audit of a major pork producer for a leading supermarket, and we were offered a guided tour of the factory process - literally from pigs in a field to film-wrapped bacon products on a polystyrene tray. I declined to go through the abattoir section and join at the cleaned carcass stage. Of the 4 men who went for the 'full monty' trip, one fainted as he saw the carcasses being gutted and two others were sick as soon as they came out...... Really think this would be a bad idea for kids! Or maybe it's a cunning plan by the 'Go Vegan' campaigners to ensure that they would never again touch meat with a bargepole........

I suspect you may well be right, Becky. I don't blame you for giving the actual slaughter a miss. As long as children know that meat comes from animals, that's really enough.
