Liverpool and Arsenal have enquired but have probably chosen some other players. Benfica is now in pole position to get him. He is a free agent after his contract with Shakhtar ended. A really good team, finished behind Man City but ahead of Napoli in the Champions League group and almost took Roma out. Bernard has been outstanding there. Benfica is offering him 7 millon to sign for them and 2.2 million yearly salary. That's not even a 40k a week in England, a very affordable salary!! And to pay only 7 million for a player like Bernard....! Palace, get in there!

Great idea. Money shouldn't be an issue (Cabaye's wages would easily cover it) but think the lack of European football might be. Definitely onboard with Matteo getting the European scout gig though! Edited by leedseagle81 (15 Jul 2018 10.14pm)

somebody needs to invent a scouting game, with strict rules and based on real-world prices to see how Matteo gets on. I have no idea if this fella, or the other 100 or so recommended by Matteo, are decent. might be. I like to imagine he's The Man.

Bernard was a huge favourite at Atletico Mineiro, a speedy and clever winger, nay, mercurial, while here in Belo Horizonte. Shaktar Donestk with its sizeable Brazilian contingente, have kept him on ever since he moved there a few years ago. Furthermore, the club usually does quite well in the Champions´ League, so obviously Bernard does in fact have European experience, Ukraine being in Europe, despite that nation´s cyrillic orthography.

Being outside Europe is hardly a prerequisite for using a Cyrillic alphabet. Russian, White Russian and Bulgarian do for a start.
