The Army is a tool of politicians and soldiers are not to blame for the strategy. It isn’t right to vilify them. My grandfather deeply regretted his part in the First World War and felt the ordinary man was used and abused. The Second World War was very different and my father was proud to fight the Nazis and also to make lifelong friends with Germans during the occupation. Protest against politicians not soldiers.

To suggest other wise is Islamophobic. We live in a free(ish) and secular country that does not have special rules for different religious faiths with regard to political freedom. I didn't believe our army should have been in Iraq and protested about it. That was my right. There is a small minority of Islamophobic people in our country. The vast majority of them are as well informed on the nature of Islam and the nature of state terrorism as a bag of spuds.

It reminds me of an argument given against Jews who are too quick to point the finger at anti semitism. You open the door for those Arabs you accuse to wear it as a badge of honour. In fact, were you to substitute ‘islam’ for ‘judaism’ and ‘islamophobia’ for ‘antisemitism’, your sentence would sound very familiar to people in Hamas and Hezbollah.
