It seems that Brits are hungry for gossip and all the media is doing is obliging them and like all gossip some of it is true and some isn't. When I was young the press (both tabloid and broadsheet) used to write reports on matches and not much else but it's comparatively recently that people want to know what an England International's wife is wearing or similar rubbish
