Persoally don't believe VAR is Ready yet. It needs to be much quicker, and More transparent to the fans,

True - seemed to be better used in the World Cup but still there were issues of course including the final with the France penalty for handball.

On a week to week basis you might not get consistent usage or mangers complaining why wasn't it used for one incident and not another.

And yes rugby style comminication could be useful but the folks in charge seem seem to think we're all going to kick off big style when a replay is shown..

We aren't all Millwall/West Ham!

Obviously I don't know for a fact, but it is possible that when the players came together, Oliver was focussed on the ball, which was won cleanly by PVA hence play was allowed to continue but it was the Assistant who wasn't that far from the incident who saw the follow through, informed Oliver and advised him it was dangerous.Just a possibility.

Edited by Willo (24 Aug 2018 1.10pm)

It was impossible for the Assistant to have seen any follow through as PVA was blocking his view and I believe Oliver may have even been closer to the incident.

Totally agree, think the rugby model is really well used. I do not think there is any more chance of fans kicking off watching a replay, than there is having to accept the refs word for it. Thought VAR in the World Cup turned out better than I anticipated. Of course, may not help the "Big Clubs" in the Premier League.

With the greatest of respect it appeared as though the Assistant alerted Oliver to the follow-through so he must have had a good view of the incident.

We have our respective opinions on this and perhaps it is best that we don't engage in any protracted debate about the incident, else in the past such debates only disintegerate into acrimony.

I couldn't agree more with this. The reason football gave against doing this years ago was that they were concerned about players swearing at the ref. Not a good enough reason in my view and it's just pandering to unacceptable behavior. If they swear at the ref they should be booked.

In a similar way we have allowed the same to happen with diving. It's obvious when a player is trying to con a referee even if there is contact. Some degree of contact has to be allowed as it's turning the game into a farce. I'd like to see players with a bit of pride play the game with honesty and integrity. Not throw them self about on the floor like toddlers having a fit.

In both cases on Monday Salah went down like he had been shot, even though it took countless replays to establish where contact had been made and people still aren't certain. Some people accept the narrative that if a player gets touched they have a right to go down. As far as I'm concerned, that's just giving in to the cheats.

Going back to rugby, its very difficult for the players to get away with anything anymore, unless your New Zealand. It took a few years to sort this out, but VAR has to be brought in at some stage and we'll have to go through these teething issues.

I read an article a couple of weeks back that suggested that last season with regard to refereeing decisions/mistakes - we didn't do too badly on a points basis. In fact we came out roughly flat.

Shame I cant remember where I read it.

My final word on this, I did say that the Assistant alerted Oliver to the incident but from where he was he could not possibly have seen anything as PVA was blocking his view, he was persuaded by Milner staying down, I sit very close to this incident and am fully aware of the position of the Assistant.

it really shows how people read things someone points out that we have had decisions our way and totally ignore it because they dont like people pointing out facts

So I take it you were happy with Taylor's performance today then?

On Monday I said that was the worst ref performance I'd seen for a while and today Taylor goes and tops it within a few minutes. Blatant sending off offence against Wilf not given and then gives Wilf the most preposterous yellow card. Sent a clear message to Watford that thuggery was fine by him and it was unfair of us to field such a good player. He then looked stupider and stupider as he failed to make his subsequent decisions look consistent with those two.

Two total disgraces out of three so far. Good going.

It's absolutely f***ing pathetic, it really is.

I do agree with you. The only thing I can think about Capoue's challenge is that from the ref's angle he may have not seen the raking of the calf, only a trip. Where is VAR when you need it, thought Graham Souness was brilliant, he looked visibly upset at the assault. Wilf's booking was caused by the reaction of the Watford players (why did Palace players not react in the same way). Jaanmats challenge on PVA warranted a booking and his attempt to get Wilf sent off was disgraceful (thought the ref handled that well). Watford really are a scummy club, read their forum about Capoues tackle on Wilf.
