Is Ayew now expected to solve our problems? Every club he has played for has been relegated.

Not good enough for a team who is looking to avoid a relegation fight.

please children do your homework before making statements really is annoying, Marseille and Lorient didnt get relegated thats 2,he scored 12 goals in 31 games for Lorient which kept them up,D- must do better

I'm not interested in the Micky Mouse French league.
Where it matters, his clubs have been relegated.

Do try not to be so patronising, especially when comparing apples with oranges.

Whilst we have fans like you who accept mediocrity, we will always be going nowhere. I thought this game exposed exactly how flimsy our squad still is despite 5 years in the PL.

Ridiculous comments. Exactly how many premier league teams thrashed championship teams in this round? The answer is none, not one.

Not only that, Toon and the Cloggers both got turned over and wet spam fans spent most of their match running for the water closet as well.

So to sum up. Our squad is OK because Newcastle lost.

Thanks.

Hrolf, I can see where you are coming from, but compare the Swansea game to what happened at the same stage last season. Far better, surely?

As an aside (ie not in response to your comments) I’ve just got around to watching the goal, and (leaving aside general comments about his abilities - including some from me during Oxford away) Sorloth deserves some credit for the way he tucked it away. The reports made it sound like Jairo had put it on a plate for him, but actually he still had a bit to do.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Not better enough for me.
The simple fact is that the board have decided that we aren't spending money and when that happens, you risk going backwards. It was obvious that what we have up front is not good enough and our back four cannot withstand injuries.
We were lucky against Fulham, poor against Liverpool and dire against Watford. If Wilf is injured for a long period again, we are in trouble. Let's hope our new signings shine.

I see we have been rewarded with a glamour tie in the next round.

Palace has been spending a lot, that is a simple fact.

I don't think anyone thinks we should be spending like a top 6 team. We spent massively to stay up, but I'm glad they're being careful instead of throwing 20M after Ings or someone similar.

The squad is better than last year.
Guaita > Cavalieri
Kouyaté < RLC (but RLC only started 21 games for us)
Ayew > Sako (close but Sako is a sick note)
Meyer = Cabaye (okay the jury is still out, but it looks good)
AWB > TFM
Pape > Jach
Johnny W > Rakip

And most importantly, we didn't sell any of our top players --which is what dooms most mid-table team to relegation.

Lastly, we locked up Roy and we locked up Zaha, losing either would have made us immediate relegation fodder.

I'm not sure I agree. I don't see how the squad is better than last year. Meyer looks good but we have lost Cabaye and I see no improvement elsewhere.
We have lost RLC and Sako and replaced them with uninspiring players. Our strike force is injured, unproven or totally out of form and we have done little to improve that. Our defence is seriously lacking if Tomkins or Sakho are injured which is very likely to happen.

Our last two windows have consisted of signings players who were clearly not good enough or risky and cheap.

Not impressed.

Spending our way to relegation makes no sense to me. Not all players pay off, but we seem to do better than most.

I would have loved to keep RLC, but he still had as many invisible games as great ones (If he sits on the bench this year and doesn't play for ENG, I'm hopeful we can get him later). His defensive game certainly needed work, and I rate Kouyaté for that.

I love Cabaye, but he was down to 60 useful minutes per match, and would probably be less mobile this season. Mayer MAY be a brilliant replacement. Cabaye had 1 assist in 31 appearances last year. Meyer equaled that in 15 minutes of play. I'm hopeful.

And Sako? He's a nice guy, but did nothing apart from one good stretch for Roy (and then got injured for the 36th time). 5 Prem goals to Ayew's 17, and 4 years younger, that HAS to be considered an upgrade.

And you seemed to forget we were sweating on Hennessey's health all last season. Now we have Guiata, who may grab the shirt when given a chance.

We're Palace, we aren't going to have £20M players at every position and £100M sitting on the bench.
I'm impressed with the squad that is getting better without panic buys or risking financial ruin.

If that is an up to date valuation then we are only spending/losing 20 million a year on transfers
