Very apt! My mate used to call Terry Fenwick (in his post-Palace England days) ‘Cornflake packet head’

nothing to the cruel abuse I saw dished out to George woods at filbert st.
when you've got your own fans in the away end singing
'he's got big tits and a hooley hooley skirt' right behind you its not going to go well.
he let in 4 that day.

George Woods was a great servant - just a shame he was rubbish. My brother always said he was the proof about Scottish Goalies.
Bruce Dyer was hilarious - he was so fast he always got to the ball; just, when he did he couldn't kick it properly. Perhaps he should have been a sprinter rather than a footballer.

Irrational indeed, and anyone over 11 spouting wet spam is beyond me, thou i do enjoy reminding our neighbours at stamford bridge that before the russian money arrived and made them one of the bigger clubs they were getting 6 thousand crowds in the second division, and the same people that for a club with such a rich right wing history that its funny how they accept so many non white players as heroes, then spout the racist stuff on the taxi rank,,,,they dont like it !

Yes but so did the Leicester goalie.

I was at the old 'Filbert Street' at this game which I think was in January 1988.
We were 4-2 to the good at half-time and an error by George Wood led to them pulling one back early in the second half.
I cannot recall the Leicester keeper that day - might have been Ian Andrews but I am not too sure.

Wood of course joined us as Goalkeeper coach when Holloway was manager and was in this position under Pulis and Pardew before Woodman was appointed whilst Pardew was in charge.

I was there too, Willo. Another two points chucked away!

I’ve a feeling it may have been the New Year holiday, in which case maybe George’s mind was on ‘first footing’, stealing coal from neighbours and the like.

I have just checked and can confirm that the match was played on 2nd January 1988.

I was in the 'Stand' with the Palace supporters, in one corner of one of the long sides of the pitch.Wood kicked the ball to one of their players who was near to us and it ended up being 4-3 just after half-time.Very disappointing after leading 4-2 at half-time.

EFA. On the topic of this thread, I just can't stand Brighton and our rivalry is perhaps not football's most rational one. Not many of our fans will remember Mullery or even Big Mal any more. I wouldn't wish them any specific harm; unless they attacked me or other Palace fans.
Any of us who remember Charlton away have probably been through more trouble but I guess they don't matter anymore. Never did care about the knuckle-draggers. I remember the days when you had to basically be a nutcase to go in the away end at the Den. I'm not afraid to admit always going in the home end there. Used to be a quiet place when they scored. About half of the home support were probably Palace.
A rational hatred would be Man U. Needless to say I was at the game where Paul Nixon was killed. Was a disgrace that Man U refused to postpone the replay. Nevertheless, I usually only slag their fans - as how plastic can you get - but would be unlikely to hate them simply due to their misguided alliegence.
