Serena Williams is a fine example of progressive values. She seems to believe in all their tropes and vocalizes them at pretty much any opportunity she gets.....if it advantages her.

The women whom the sport and system made a multi millionairess lavished with praise but who has an incredibly thin skin when receiving criticism.

She's screams about injustice over equality yet gets paid the same as a male yet for less work and at the height of her tennis powers was beaten 6-2 by the 203rd ranked male.....strange how it's equality to pay her far more in a world where 'equality' is apparently so important....At her best she was something like 300 on the men's circuit.

Oh woe is Serena Williams.

Good post, one point I disagree on. Sport is commercial entertainment and male or female you are entitled to maximise your value. How hard they work is irrelevant your value is based on bums on seats. TV, sponsorship, advertising etc. follows the popular sport / players.

A lady friend who is a big tennis fan was at Wimbledon. The first match was a men's single the court was packed. The next games was a women's single and the place emptied, they all returned for the next men's match.

Equality in sport is ridiculous sport is the very definition of inequality. If the women can earn more than the men good luck to them. If they earn less they need to question how they run their sport and why it is less attractive to business.

They earn less because they are not as good. It's that simple. Do we expect Women footballers to earn as much as the men? Will someone pay me as much as Ronaldo to play football? Yes please.

Williams behaviour is just another typical example of blaming others for one's own limitations.

It's always someone else's fault.

All true points of course.

When I referred to pay in relation to work I was of course referring to the men playing five sets while the women play three.....Just another inequality....the women would probably collectively agree to play five but the harsh truth is that the spectator interest isn't there in enough numbers to make business sense for the additional scheduling time.

The reality, as we know, is that the women's game isn't paid in relation to spectator nor viewer interest. It's paid purely on gender politics. It's 'pick n choose' equality.....or in other words, modern day feminism.

Female footballers, in principle, could make the same argument for equal pay as the tennis players did.....in time I imagine we will hear those demands.

It sounds like I'm down on women.....whereas in truth, they are in general deeply wonderful.

Just not as interesting playing sport.

the issue is she broke the rules and should respect the ruling,

it wasnt sexism or racism. it was a simple rule violation, it was a all female final for god sake

the one thing she needed to bring up after was the guys get away with it,

what she done was try and upset her opponent who was beating her,

as for equal pay play 5 sets instead of 3 or play the men simples

Would I be right in saying that wonen tennis players only get paid the same as men at those tournaments where both men and women play i.e. basically the four grand slam tournaments, where commercialism slightly goes out of the window (i.e. the crowds will turn up, regardless)?

Week-by-week, outside of the majors, men and women play the same (best of 3 sets) and I suspect that the pay in the womens’ tournaments is less than in the mens’. I’m open to correction, though, as I’ve actually no idea!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

It's only slams where they play the same tournament I think - different tours.

There are a few others but you're right about them being separate tours.

Indian Wells is one of them with equal prize money but then you have Miami, Beijing and Madrid where the women get more, Canada and Cincinnati where the men get more.

The rest of the events are separate as far as I can recall.

They also play Hopman cup which is a mixed event, and like the slams that is an ITF event rather than ATP/WTA.

Optimistic as ever

And wait for it...

This is a 'racist' cartoon...Apparently.

That means that all satirical cartoons must have been 'racist' ever since they were invented.
This is how identity politics is used to excuse any misdemeanour.

Anyone fed up with it?

It’s a flipping appalling caricature. Genuinely horrible. How anyone can defend it defies logic

The lips are particularly offensive. That it is racist is beyond doubt. The white and black characters are treated in completely different ways. Think 1950s America.
