Here’s my take on MOTD:

I agree with Chateauferret; the foul on Wilf should have been a red card.

Wilf’s ‘in frustration’ foul was tame by comparison, but referees will always give a yellow in those situations as it plays into their officious nature. Ergo Wilf and his earlier assailant have received equal punishment for offences of vastly different severity,

There was a foul on Ayew, clearly before the defender then touched the ball with a second movement. Penalty.

The Huddersfield goalkeeper was knocked over by one or possibly two of his own defenders before Palace ‘bundled’ the loose ball across the line. Nothing that I could see to merit the award of a free kick.

Well done Wilf, for speaking out against the bias in referees when he is assaulted compared to other players.

Feck off Gary Lineker: “he should have played in the 1980s” was his considered opinion. That’s not the point Wilf was making, you smug tw*t; do you not understand the difference between relative and absolute?

Good post - I agree!
To those who don't realise - this is a discussion forum!
I have supported Palace for over 50 years and if I and others want express the view that yesterday was a piss poor performance then we are allowed to.
Doesn't mean that I am not happy winning ugly or that I don't have a grasp on how difficult it is to win away.
Just that we should better than we were yesterday if we want to move forward that's all.
Wilf's goal was amazing and was fit to win any game but the rest was way below par!

Also at the risk of opening up an old wound I am still not happy with Hennessey.
He has made some blinding saves and kept us in games but he has no authority and regularly hesitates and therefore bottles things in my opinion.
Yesterday was a prime example when in the first half he came out for a 50/50 cross and suddenly stopped when the ball was clearly his to punch - their player headed over thankfully.
These situations are too common and despite his point blank ability I think we need our new Goalie to be given a run of games.
Awaits abuse with interest!

To sum up. We were atrocious.

Poor forward passing. Dithering in defence. No control of the midfield. Well below what we are capable of.

It's lucky that Huddersfield couldn't hit a barn door with a bazooka.

Ugly win devoid of quality play for much of the game that rightly attracted last billing on MOTD. Huddersfield will be kicking themselves (as opposed to Wilf) that they didn't get the win. Without Wilf, we'd have been out of sight and left far behind.

By way of poor defence, all I can add is that Spurs had a shocker yesterday that made us look phenomenal in that department.

Some of the reaction to what was actually a victory, and some of the opinions expressed about the way we achieved that massive result is scarily reminiscent of the past mutterings of supporters of clubs like Charlton or Stoke.
They failed to appreciate what a great achievement it was just to be actually surviving in the Premier League season after season.
Both of those clubs were quite comfortably placed in the Premier League, but that wasn't enough for some, and agitation for change came about, and then relegation came about.
Palace are currently experiencing, by far,the most successful period in their history.
And I'm living it.and loving it.

I am willing to believe we did not play that well. I didn’t see it albeit the 9 minutes of highlights (i.e. the ‘best’ bits from both teams) I saw some good play.

BUT the negativity on this thread is unbelievable! Man U play badly, Man City play badly, Chelsea or any of those rich teams and the response is ‘good teams win even when playing badly’. That is true so perhaps you bunch of Eeyores just think it might be that Palace might be one of those good teams!

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time!

Agree. Thought Hennesssey has been good this season however yesterday he seemed like the keeper of last season.

That said, he did keep a clean sheet however he didn't inspire confidence.

Went to the game yesterday and think I must have been watching a different match. I dont think you could call us "atrocious" at all. I admit that it wasnt the most exciting game to watch but I thought we defended very well, were good on the break and most importantly looked in control and confident. I think Tomkins had a great game, looked very steady. I think they need to look at getting some kind of sports therapist in to speak to Wilf - goal aside he did seem reluctant in general to go on runs which is vital.

On a side note, what a horrible group of fans Huddersfield were. We were unluckily sitting right next to the division and I have to say Ive not known a group of absolute thugs like that. Some of the "songs" they sang were absolutely disgusting, I was very pleased my son had stayed away. Spoilt the match for me, so glad Wilf scored which did help to shut them up.

Would have like to have seen Meyer on around 70 mins for a bit of pace and energy in the last quarter.

Also Kouyate handing his shirt to a young lad in the crowd = class.

From the Huddersfield Town forum :

"Zaha (and Palace as a whole today) were a bunch of dirty diving whinging gits. They could easily have had another yellow or 2 in the first half at least. Oh and the lot of them seemed soft as s***, especially that wimp who laid on the ground twice holding his arm."

Ugly performance yes but this type of comment is worth a vent..

Hodgson hasn't sorted the midfield yet after the loss of Cabaye, Luka's form should pick up once everyone's role is clear and Meyer's a regular - will take a bit of time before we click, hopefully Meyer will start v Toon.

Leaving selhurst on a coach at 730am and getting back at gone 1030pm the 3 points were very sweet even with a 7/10 display
The fans were amazing and used the huddersfields own drummer for our own songs by singing to his beat. Quality.

Hope so too. The Arse struggled against them yesterday until Torreira came on. Meyer could do a similar job and also we looked a lot livelier against the Saints when he came on. Let's hope we see him before trying to chase a game.
