I could agree if the score wasn't Huddersfield NIL

The defense was good enough yesterday, unlike the Soton game

From the commentary I heard yesterday and the brief highlights on MOTD, it was NIL despite our defence, not because of it.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Think the OP has a genuine point here. We won today by luck more than digging in. We're far from water tight at the back, look at Fulham game, bar a Hennessey wonder show and poor fiishing We lose that. They got in so many times

Thought pva was awful yestetday, but thd other 3 played well, especially tompkins.
What I don't like is thd way we play so narrow. Seems to be s tactic of ours. There wide players had so much space and got some really good crosses in. Don't really understand why we play like that.

Huddersfield had a team of Benteke's fortunately for us. Several guilt edged chances going wide, over and hitting the post.

I wouldn't worry too much if we were only having a problem with 1 specific tactic, I.e. early crosses but it was more than that. We couldn't stop early crosses from open play, left players unmarked in the box from set pieces, when low crosses were played to feet we weren't getting out to prevent the control/dribble/shot.

Sorry guys but it was truly awful but the good news it's I think it'll be a one off. Tomkins and Sakho win everything usually but won very little in the air. Wan-Bissaka generally is a rock but made youngster mistakes and done some silly things he doesn't usually do. PVA isn't a defender and is our weak spot but if the other 3 are on point and Luka/Townsend cover him it's fine.

We had a rare day where the entire back 4 and Luka weren't on it and we still won because of our magic man Wilf.

If it happens again though we lose.

If we let the other team have the ball for the entire match it’s not surprising that teams will make hay. That said our marking yesterday was very poor.

And I’ve no idea why Meyer isn’t playing. God knows it’s effing obvious we are lacking a ball playing midfielder. In Roy We Trust...

I mean that. He must be working it out and not throwing him in the deep end. 🙏🏿

I am quite frankly disappointed here.

Was hoping for the start of another epic thread about just how bad our keeper Big Wayne is, how responsible he is for all evils and how he will single handedly get us relegated.

But maybe that is for another time (And time again.)

Not sure how you improve on a Nil.

We've already had three clean sheets this season.

I agree on Meyer.

I'd like to see Meyer in for Ayew with Zaha and Townsend playing up front against Newcastle.

Like others have said, the problem is with the midfield and not the back 4. As back 4s go we genuinely have as good of a combination as you could hope for as a club of our size.

Problem is, Lukas playing like a donkey this season. Jimmy Mac is a fantastic engine and so important in our squad, but he’s not much more than an engine. Kouyate, again, seems to be decent as a solid physical presence but his passing looks abysmal.

We do have the answers to this in our squad, but it will mean being bold in the sense that we sacrifice some of our destroyer type midfielders for more creative presences. Still not on board with the idea that Meyer is a like for like replacement for Cabaye because he’s not. But a mix of Riedewald (yes, Riedewald) and Meyer being introduced could really see us have a really nice balance in the squad.

I think that the Meyer situation is showing early signs of an all to familiar tale at Palace, which is just so disappointing. That’s just how it feels. “Not physical enough” or whatever the reason will be not to make him a key player in our team. And I’ll continue banging the Riedewald drum whilst he’s here as he can play but also has good defensive awareness.

We do have the solutions to the nonsense we’ve played in the last couple of weeks. Whether or not management is brave enough to switch it up is yet to be seen.

We're the Arthur over ere!

I think a large part of the problem is actually the midfield. Without Luka and Cabaye it's getting overrun and leaving our back 4 exposed.

Luka was playing.

It's not unreasonable to say it's a clean sheet so what's the problem. Of course if we play Huddersfield every week AND they are as unlucky as they were yesterday then yes of course that logic is fine. In my opinion there are very few, if any teams in the prem who will score less goals than Huddersfield. The time to fix the hole in the roof is when the sun is shining, not when the rain is pouring through. What can do it though? They're all good players but the organisation seems woeful at times. If you can't successfully mark Huddersfield players in the box, then you sure as s*** can't do against all the better strikers in the prem.

A decent point about maybe Meyer is being eased in - after all he is young - but him and Zaha could be so destructive and really help our forwards get amongst the goals. The balance is is also crucial of course and I wonder if it has to be Luka or Kouyate. Some healthy competition for places would be excellent - I think we do have the players for a strong midfield, in fact I think we have the players to be a top ten team - but the discipline and organisation is vital and appears to be missing at the moment.

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue
Yours sincerely
Mile Jedinak
