I rarely comment, but...I have never heard anything so stupid as the Shearer/Wright comments on WZ...”take it as a compliment” (that defenders are trying to injure you)
Wonder what they will say if....(I cannot write what I want to)
Surely the most fouled Premiership footballer deserves more support from referees.
Surely the days of Chopper Harris and Norman ‘Biteya Legs’ Hunter are long gone?
My respect for these two ignorami has evaporated...

Agreed can just here them , if wilf does get seriously injured, they will comment: “Not the same player after that injury should have been protected more something got to be done to protect gifted players “

if referees continue to fail to protect our attacking players, we can always get a little bit tasty with the opposition strikers ?

sadly this will make precious little difference to all the Huddersfields cos their attacking players are rubbish.

zaha is our greatest strength, and simultaneously our greatest weakness. Maybe we should have a Shaun Derry type to act as his bodyguard.

Eze Peasy at Anfield....

Same used to happen to Ronaldo what did he do get on with it and make them pay by performance on the pitch.

Wilf needs to learn this he for years now falls in to the traps and needs to grow up use his brain

They are correct what was said on motd when you have teams doing that it is for a reason.

You won’t get much sense or insight out of the ‘old boy’s network’ on MOD.
How it can be seen as a ‘compliment’ to be on the receiving end of very bad tackles as Zaha has against Watford and Huddersfield is beyond me.
When they are not necessarily bad tackles but Zaha is still taken down he is labelled a ‘diver.’
The annoying thing is that Zaha has managed to be booked in both games and is only a couple more bookings away from a suspension which seems unjust.
I can understand his anger and frustration about the lack of condemnation from pundits.

It is a compliment coz defenders know the threat Wilf poses, like ALL attacking flair players(apart from Citeh) they will & are targeted.

Wilf does need to rise above it & let him do his reply ON the pitch not with 'petulance'. Dont get me wrong, i do agree with him, but MOTD was not the place to air his views.

Agreed, but unfortunately Wilf isn't sufficiently worldly-wise to realise the danger of speaking frankly to journalists. I haven't seen a newspaper today, but I'd expect at least one Sunday or Monday paper to carry a lurid headline like "ZAHA SLAMS POOR PREMIERSHIP REFEREES" - and much good will that do him with the officials, I don't think. They will want to get their revenge.

Of course, all the old pros (like our own dear Roy) have spent years answering journalists' questions without actually saying anything. But who can blame them, when the slightest indiscretion can be twisted and lead to damaging headlines? Pity really.

I can’t understand the twisted logic on this matter.
It appears that some are seeking to legitimise dangerous tackles on skilful players because in some sense they are a complement.
If Wilf is crocked as a result of these late and high tackles, which have no intent to go for the ball, will the same people still see it as a ‘complement?’
Do we really want to go back to the era when players such as Van Basten were kicked out of the game?

Below is what I posted on the match thread this morning after watching a recording of MOTD (I dunno how to do a link to another thread, guys). In summary...I agree with the OP!

Here’s my take on MOTD:

I agree with Chateauferret; the foul on Wilf should have been a red card.

Wilf’s ‘in frustration’ foul was tame by comparison, but referees will always give a yellow in those situations as it plays into their officious nature. Ergo Wilf and his earlier assailant have received equal punishment for offences of vastly different severity,

There was a foul on Ayew, clearly before the defender then touched the ball with a second movement. Penalty.

The Huddersfield goalkeeper was knocked over by one or possibly two of his own defenders before Palace ‘bundled’ the loose ball across the line. Nothing that I could see to merit the award of a free kick.

Well done Wilf, for speaking out against the bias in referees when he is assaulted compared to other players.

Feck off Gary Lineker: “he should have played in the 1980s” was his considered opinion. That’s not the point Wilf was making, you smug tw*t; do you not understand the difference between relative and absolute?

Alan saying that "fans don't boo bad players" and just to take it on the chin. He can honestly f***ing do one. Blokes such an egotistical prick. Wilfs meant to smile and be all gushy when someone breaks his leg then is he? Take it as a compliment? Arse hole
