Any team that depends on one player to win games will suffer similarly. K

I wonder how many compliments the Noocastle players will give Wilf ?

I would like to compliment Shearer with a nail-gun

It is a compliment coz defenders know the threat Wilf poses, like ALL attacking flair players(apart from Citeh) they will & are targeted.

Wilf does need to rise above it & let him do his reply ON the pitch not with 'petulance'. Dont get me wrong, i do agree with him, but MOTD was not the place to air his views.

Agreed its a backhanded compliment...but its only an issue because refs are bottling clearcut decisions. it makes me laugh when players barely make contact and get free kicks, but he's assaulted on the pitch and then either is told to get up or the ref awards a cowardly yellow...

I would have preferred it if the plea for protection had come from Roy or another senior representative of CPFC rather than from Wilf himself.

When it comes from the player it immediately opens him up to a charge of whinging and can be counter productive.

I was however impressed by Robbie Savage's impassioned support for Wilf's case on Saturday's 606.

Me too....a ref might now be reluctant to send a player off in case it's seen as a response to wilfs' criticism. ..

Not sure that the problem is because we're a one-man team isn't Hazard the 2nd most fouled? Cant call Chelsea a one more team, can you?

I think he's right to raise it. The players/managers know fouling Zaha is now a thing. Hopefully this will give them pause. Not putting much hope on the refs...

Him raising it how he did, however, has plus and minus points.
On one hand he has gotten it talked about, so it may start getting the refs to think about whats happening to him and others differently.
On the other hand, it makes him look like a whinging little princess and other teams can now see what they have to do to get under his skin.

I read Jamie Redknapps article today and he agrees that Wilf should be protected more. Garth Crooks argues that he should let the pundits and refs sort it out, yes Garth I'm sure Wilf will love that with his leg in a cast.

He also goes one further than Lineker's comments about the 80s, by suggesting that two players that primarily played in the 60s and 70s didn't complain.

Better for Zaha to raise the issue, before he goes out with a long-term injury.
The other option is to stay quiet and get kicked out of games

Quite agree FH, however you'll recall no-doubt seeing wrighty treated the same by cloggers while playing for us. I never heard him moan, granted I seen square up to many a centre half maybe wilf should have quiet word with the old boy.

Obviously not the same Shearer who elbowed the Argentinian goalkeeper thereby preventing Campbell from scoring his first international goal and knocking England out of the world cup in one.
I have always believed it unfair that a defender can make three fouls before being booked whereas a striker will be booked after one for retaliation.
I hope that the FA (don't hold much hope) and referees don't pick on him more now but I have been watching Palace a while now.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

The funny thing is I remember when our defenders used to kick the opposing strikers all over the pitch and nobody shouted for us to stop.

Anyone remember the matches v Everton in the early 90s? Eric Young breaking Keown's nose (albeit not a striker) in the ZDS Final, etc.

I don't approve of Zaha getting hacked all over the place but what's good for the goose is good for the gander. We can't have double morals about this.

But it's not double morals. Wilf is targeted and that is the difference. He is fouled by various players so they don't pick up a yellow let alone a red. The matches against Watford and Huddersfield show the lengths these teams will go to stop him. I can't think of a player we have dome that to.
