I don’t want to right Sorloth off right away, 5-10 mins Premier League football a week isn’t enough to make any sort of judgement nor is it enough time for him to adjust. He started in the league cup and didn’t look out of place, holding the ball up and linking well with Townsend. His ball control isn’t great and will probably be his downfall, he also doesn’t seem to run at full speed ever, it looks as though he doesn’t even lift his knees – very odd.

Ayew – runs a lot, links up play but he never looks to get a shot off and seems to always pass back or out wide, lack of confidence maybe?

Sakho – In my opinion is our best defender, the amount of attacks he sets up from just being calm in possession and playing forward passes through the midfield. Stones does similar and gets raved about but he also worries fans. These sorts of players are bound to make mistakes from time to time but are invaluable for a team who want to keep possession. Would we prefer a no-nonsense Damien Delaney type again?

If we can get Loftus-Cheek in January, I’d be happy with Townsend and Zaha up top as this is when I believe we played the best football I’ve ever seen at Palace.

I think we need to be looking to the academy.

Find a few lightning strikers with a bit of talent, get a decent coach who knows how to score in the Premiership, spend the next two years working on them every day, teach them how to play in the system and then roll them out and see how they get on.

Not sure if its still the case due to the managerial merry-go-round in recent years, but we had AJ not so long ago who was coaching the strikers. He would be ideal to help develop and mould a young forward in movement, finishing and all round forward play.

Am I alone in thinking Sakho is not the same player we had on lone and then signed?

He does not seem comfortable or confident in defense, this is not about his couple of mistakes, but in general.

Tompkins has been really solid and is it time for a new partner at the back for him?

I have never understood why we splash millions on some players, when the money could be spent on the training ground and academy. I mean, we have just signed Kirby up for another four years (which is great news) but if we are not going to invest in him, and play him then why bother?

He is what he is. Was very overpriced. We got held to ransom and for some reason it was a massively important, bordering on obsessive, for the club to get him, so they did what was necessary to get him.

Theres no way he'll be dropped and a new partner brought in for Tomkins. We don't drop expensive players. We have another one who has been rubbish for more than a year, but whenever he is fit he gets in every time ignoring his poor form.

I for one wanted him when he was here on Loan , But he plays a high risk game . When it comes off it looks class but when it doesn’t then it looks sh@@t .He has a mistake in him and makes quite a few the way he plays .Now I would rather have a fit Dann or similar who is steady .

Exactly, Nya Kirby is a huge prospect. Why cant he be tried out? Look what happened when Harry Kane was thrown in as a young man at Spurs when they were short up top, or even someone like Dele Alli or Harry Winks.
On Nya's interview he said the boss has told him hes likely to be going out on loan in January to get some game time.

Thats probably the main thing i miss about being in the championship.. seeing our youngsters coming through like, Wilf, Clyne, Scannell, Bostock, Moses even as far back as Routledge and Ben Watson. Now we only see them when theyre 23-24 and sometimes we never see them at all.
The Academy cant have changed that much, we must still be producing similar calibre players, its just giving them a chance. Those listed above never seemed out of their depth when given their moment.
I know premier league survival is objective number 1, but someone like kirby could really be the real deal, and us fans at Selhurst love nothing more than to see one of our own at Selhurst.

Another player who was rash at times.
Warnock signed him for us and it was Steve Evans who signed him for Crawley and then also signed him for Rotherham.

Have you ever seen a player who can not cut in the "Micky Mouse" Dutch league made it to a decent level? Lots of Scandinavian players use the League here as successful stepping stone to great things but Sorloth failed at a mid table team. He simply lacks the quality and we were silly to spend the money we did on him.

As for a chance: you have to earn your chance and what I have seen so far he does exactly the opposite.

We will be lucky to recoup 3 or 4 million for him.

And how I hope this message comes back to haunt me in the future.

So many f*** retards on this forum.

1. Sorloth is never given an actual chance.
2. Ayew is far, far worse. It's close to a living hell watching him play.
3. What has Benteke done for ya lately?

Sorloth is gonna go to another PL club and just rock it.

Give Sørloth a run in the team - no chanche to impress with odd ten minutes now and then.

Sorry, but he just doesn't look the business. He's far too slow. He might be OK in the Championship but he's not the answer to our current problems.

My sentiments exactly. To be fair, I can see the difficulties in midfield, but Roy has gone 90 minutes without using his subs so I don’t see why we can’t throw Kirby on for 5 minutes to see how he does.

I remember Lee Hills scoring against Bristol City and Grant Watts scoring against Chelsea. I am sure it is rose tinted glasses, but we seem to rate youngsters we can buy over ones we can grow.

Jach over Innes is an example.
