Problem is when celebrity's do that they're lambasted for that too so can't really win.

I am sure the high profile female celebrities are out in force today campaigning against some of the below that happens worldwide (Its International Day remember):

- FGM
- Forced Marriage
- Religions and cultures that subjugate women and make them second class citizens.
- Unjust laws that discriminate against women e.g. a women's evidence does not carry the same weight as a mans.
- Equal pay
- Low pay (disproportionately affects women)
- Rape as a weapon in war
- Lack of education for girls
- Access to contraception
- Etc.

OR
They could just put on a low cut designer black dress attend an awards ceremony and send a tweet sharing their personal pain about some bloke that groped them twenty years ago.

Where's Germaine Greer when you need her at least she doesn't give a damn who she upsets.

Yes, I think it's all a load of old bollocks too

Surely on woman's day it should be anything but bollocks

Danny, do you not feel women internationally need a little bit of help in less Liberal places getting a bit of equality?

Yes I do in places like Iran. This is modern Britain with a female PM. It feels a bit tokenistic to me.

That's why you need a Germaine Greer type personality. Someone who is not afraid to take the brickbats and potentially lose popularity.

I guess what I am saying is too many celebrities (not just women) pay lip service to campaigns without any skin in the game. Across the world women are risking their lives for some of those topics yet these celebs just send a tweet and melt if there is any controversy.

The so called protest at the Golden Globes was pathetic. If they were really serious they would have boycotted the event. Even better they should have turned up outside with banners and burned their designer dresses and told the organisers where they could insert their awards.

There are some celebrities who do fight the good fight sadly there are a minority. I predict if you trawl the social media of the famous today you will see the usual "I'm supporting International Women's day" Tweets just as long as I don't have to do anything about it.

We have a potus openly mocking an alleged victim of an assault which suggests that maybe there's still a little way to go on this.

I thought we were talking about International women's day,not sure unbelievable was called for during a calm and reasoned debate.

You said "do you not feel women internationally need a little bit of help in less Liberal places "

I'm saying what has that got to do with an all woman cast on coronation street in modern libral Britain.

You bought up POTUS, nothing to do with Britain either?

good post.

sometimes it feels that the publicists have pressure put upon them so that an actress can get some 'me too' publicity.

Is is always on the 3rd October? Only ask as it's my wedding anniversary.

My lovely wife is doing her bit for international women's day and currently cleaning the house from top to bottom.

Though she will get a slap up meal out later. Providing she's done a good job first!

I find it quite offensive that the PC brigade promotes Women's day and yet tolerates Islamic suppression of women.
Outside of religious insanity and criminality involving the exploitation of women, I see no reason why women need any special treatment in the 21st century. They are doing just fine.
