No one knows what the stock will be of any of the current managers in two years time. But ideally we would want someone who is youngish, ambitious and yet doesn't see us purely as a stepping stone.

For a club of our stature, the only way you get a Dyche or equivalent, it seems, is by hiring when you're in the lower leagues. That is why Dougie's betrayal was so gutting for me.

What are the realistic options? An ex-player managing at a smaller club or overseas perhaps?

I actually wonder if Mourinho wouldn't be as bonkers as it seems. His family is in London - maybe he'd be happy to re-establish his credentials at a small club.

Otherwise we are looking at the usual list of hasbeens. Despite Roy's current difficulties I hope we're not looking for a new manager for a while yet.

tbh I don't think any club would want him, that's why he has ended up back with us. same with dowie, they all think they can do better then us but end up falling flat

I hope Roy will continue to serve his contract to the end and that this isn’t a prelude to a call for his resignation. He is a calming and thoughtful presence on the training field and the sidelines. I think part of the problem is bringing real strikers in and getting rid of the players that are surplus. God knows how much wickham and benteke have cost us per goal or assist they’ve provided but it must be astronomical. I’m sure it’s no fun for them either. Wilds efficiency has been poor lately as teams learn hot to deal with him. Awhile I may be booed for saying this, the truth is we could bring in two or three quality players if we sold him. It’s obvious he will not stay here forever. While this may not answer the OPs question as to who we replace Roy with, it does answer the fact that Roy is not the problem

Roy probably has until christmas to get his act together, hopefully he does he done a great job last year playing excellent stuff. Imo he hasn’t got the shape of midfield right at all, we dictated a lot of games against the mid and lower league sides last year. Striking options are piss poor as everyone knows. British clearly works best for this group. I’d go for all our for Howe. Dyche looks great on paper but it won’t be very pretty. Dougie is probably good shout whoever said that. Monk and Lampard outsiders.
