Excellent! I used to retain Újpesti Dózsa (I’ve seen alternative spellings) in my mind as a potential quiz question answer. Primarily because they lost to Newcastle in the 1969 final of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup - the forerunner of the UEFA Cup and then the Europa League. This was Newcastle’s last major trophy (not that we can shout, of course).

Alas I am old enough to remember the fairs cup, weren’t Leeds the last winners before it changed to the UEFA Cup? Wolves got to a final as well I think!!
I remember the name Ujpesti Dozsa!! Another random one was Banik Ostrava!!

I loved watching the British teams in Europe when I was a kid,,,,,,,while palace were slugging it out with the likes of Mansfield and Wrexham

Yep. Leeds won the 1971 Fairs Cup final. They beat Juventus on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate scoreline.

The first UEFA Cup final, in 1972, was Wolves and Spurs.

You and I must be brothers from another mother, Monkey, because I too used to love the old European action in those days, although in live terms it tended to be on the radio. I actually go as far back as Celtic winning the European cup in 1967, and I think I’m the only person outside Glasgow - apart from you and Willo of course - who remembers Celtic also being runners-up in 1970 when they were beaten by Feyenoord. In the semi-final they played Leeds United, and I will never forget listening to the 2nd leg at Hampden Park on the radio. The noise from the massive crowd was so loud, you could barely hear the commentary from (I think) Peter Jones.

Other distinct memories are from Derby County’s forays in to Europe - particularly when they reached the semi-final of the European Cup in 1973; the match against Juventus referred to in the book and movie ‘The Damned United’.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Indeed we must be bruv
Your knowledge and memory is brilliant!!
I think back then it was easy to follow our teams in Europe because there was no foreigners in our teams, so it really did feel like our teams were representing our country abroad, plus as Palace were only 3rd and 2nd division in my early supporting years we weren’t locking horns with the top teams so It was easy to separate it all.

‘Sportsnight’ on the bbc mid-week always had highlights of our teams in Europe, I think it was only the finals live back then!!

You should always have things to look forward to.
However, I have some great sporting memories already.

Indy500 (1994)
London Olympics 2012 (womens volleyball )
The old Wemberleee/ the new Wemberleee
My brother driving us around Silverstone in his Datsun Cherry (1.3GL) around 1987, before a steward told us to 'fck off and don't let me see you again'

I'd love to see a professional boxing match at ringside. Just to experience the brutality.

And maybe an MMA fight

Nothing really stands-out as something I feel I've missed-out-on.
C'mon people, put some ideas out there

I’ve thought of another one today, I’d like to see Palace play Bromley in a competitive game before I’m in my box. This would have to be the 3rd round of the FA Cup at the moment.

Two seasons’ time is the earliest it could happen.

I’d love to attend the Prix de L’arc de Triomphe at Longchamps. My wife offered to take me for my 60th birthday but typically they moved it to Chantilly in 2016 and it wouldn’t have been the same. Also I’ve always loved Baseball and would love to attend a live MLB game.

Not keen on that scenario tbh

I prefer the one that could happen as early as January this season if Bromley get through to the 3rd round proper.
