Steve Parish has only ever had one approach. Spend as little as possible.

I have said from day one that it is a recipe for disaster, hoping that I am wrong every season.

As I have said before, Parish mistakes luck for judgement.
Right now he has all his fingers and toes crossed that Wickham comes back and scores goals and that Ayew suddenly stops being bang average relegation fodder and steps up.

The fact is that we have to sign another quality striker because Benteke might not be back for months and is likely to be crap anyway and Sorloth will never be good enough. This is what happens when you do things on the cheap.

Did anyone else listen to Parish on FYP speak about the transfer policy and recent signings?

Someone rolled out a stat about the 7 most recent signings basically not playing for the club regularly yet. Jach, Rakip, Sorloth, Meyer, Guaita, Kouyate, Ayew.

First thing he said was we sometimes sign players to make sure we have an 11 on 11 in training.........

I was wondering if I heard that correctly, but he actually said that.

He initially stated he was absolutely thrilled with recent transfer business, that we couldnt have done any better. Old Steve then backed off a bit and said that some mistakes were made.

Most comedic moment was when he was listed all the positives behind each player, and said about Sorloth after a short pause "he had a good game at West Brom". Says it all really. Sorloth should have gone out on loan immediately, he is absolutely nowhere near Premier League level.

How anyone can look at our attacking options and think we did well on that front in recent transfer windows is beyond my comprehension. Kouyate and Meyer were good signings, make no bones about it, but in terms of forwards we are seriously lacking, again.

Never thought I would say this but I think we really could use Bakary Sako right now, he would definitely be starting.

When oh when will we properly manage our squad and ensure the manager has quality and diverse options in all areas of the pitch?

Poor deluded Steve also quoted as saying we will be OK in the next five fixtures and will surprise a few people.
It will truly surprise me if we get one point against those top sides.

Why? This is Palace - we've done it before, played like a championship side against worse sides, then turned up on the day and played like a world class team against top 6 opposition.

I'm with Steve on this one - reckon we could come out the other end with a surprise point or 3.

Listening to him say that we buy players just to have 11 vs 11 in training, or we buy players who will be happy to sit on the bench, I found myself hoping that he was making bulls*** excuses rather than actually describing aspects of our transfer policy.

He also said something like, buying squad players who weren't that upset when they don't get picked for thd first team....or words to that effect. ...
He did come out with some bizarre comments. ..lots of stuttering.
One thing that tickled me was when he said everyone should support the team and how he's hardly missed a home or away game in the last 8 years. I think if I was getting a free seat in the directors box, I wouldn't miss too many either...

To be fair, he did used to go before he purchased the club, he sat in the directors seat next to where my season ticket was in the main stand.

In my view we seem ok when buying solid consistent professionals such as Mcarthur, Dann and Tomkins.
We seem to struggle when we shell out big money which is big commitment with our resources.
We have tried to distance ourselves from clubs such as Brighton and Burnley who would never have purchased Benteke or Sakho but the jury is out as to whether we have had value.
They are I think around 27 years old so there’s still time.
However, the expenditure on them seems to have restricted our flexibility in recent windows .

Apropos the Directors Box I am informed there is a waiting list for those who wish to avail of such a facility, perhaps many loyal supporters, and perhaps the reason is that corporate guests are the priority! I have heard about a loyal supporter whose car park space in the Directors Car Park is to be revoked from next season perhaps for the same reason.

Couldnt agree more. Listening to the chairman of a Premier League side say we sign players to make the numbers in training, and try to make it sound as if Sorloth is doing really well for us, all sounds a bit deluded.

Seems to be going around lately. RH keeps saying we are putting in good performances, when it seems pretty clear we are totally unable to break down moderately well drilled defenses. If you get a goal at Selhurst, its game over, even if its in the first minute.

Listen carefully to what SP said when asked about our overall strategy on transfers, and its kind of clear; we dont have one.

Lack of "joined up thinking" runs through our club all over the place. Benteke had an abysmal season last year (not a few games, an entire season), Wickham is questionable to get back to his former levels, and Sako walked. So we sign Alex Sorloth, who couldnt cut it in the Eredivisie in Holland, and Ayew who has had about 1 shot on goal in 5 games.

Our second biggest goal threat after Zaha is our left back. And some folks wonder why we cant score any goals at home.

January will be a big window for us to solve our striker issues, unless Wickham can miraculously come good. Solving issues in transfer windows is not Steve's forte however. Seem to remember Freddie Ladapo being the only fit striker at the club not so long ago.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Our transfer policy is at best random and worst chaotic and as a Premier League Club of some years (not for much longer I fear) we should be ashamed of ourselves.
I didn't hear the interview but it sounds pretty bad.
I am a Parish fan but he should know not to try and defend the indefensible!

Overall I think our squad is decent enough and capable of staying up - with the exception of our forwards.

And those that we currently have are all good examples of the varied transfer policy that we have.

Spend big ? - We did that with Benteke. Has that been a success ?

Unearth a hitherto unknown ' gem ' - we tried that with Sorloth. Has that been a success ?

Ayew - Premier League experience with a modest goalscoring record. Has that been a success ?

Wickham - on his day he looked the part, but he can't be relied upon given his injury record. So - has that been a success ?

I don't know what the answer is, but this club have struggled to sign forwards that can deliver consistently and also seem unable to develop one from the youth set up as well.

As for SP's thoughts on this subject, I sometimes wonder if he has regular conversations with Ian Holloway....

Anyway, if you look at our ' friends ' from the South Coast, they have spent big on three forwards, none of whom are even close to removing their dependence on Glenn Murray.
