We haven't changed a game all season at the death even with late subs. Everton did today. Our 2 latest attackers, Sorloth and Ayew didn't even start this game, although the former clearly had some virus and could not take part, like Meyer. Another player, Ward got injured in training, which does seem to crop up regularly. As a fan has just said on the radio it is like the Alamo at the moment, the defence having to defend for their lives with no chance of the cavalry arriving.

Roy isnt a bad manager quite the opposite in fact but you have to say that any of the bottom 9-10 teams have the bench we had today and they make changes simple as, Roy has to lose his stubbornness or eventually he will lose his job

Missing the point
Fresh legs change a game.
If he was happy with a point at 70 mins then pack the midfield. We have a squad for a reason.

The point is , we haven’t got a squad. We’ve got maybe 15 reasonable players , the 11 that started, ward, meyer and the reserve keeper and another one that I can’t think of

I suspect that this is because of his lack of substitutes, however as I have mentioned before, in his mind the players carried his plan to the letter and he was happy with their workrate and organisation and would have been happy with a point - besides he had to consider what he had on the bench.
I think he felt that despite tiring, his players on the pitch were best placed to get a result and bringing on fresh legs when were were drawing might have upset the apple cart somewhat.

And of course he cannot be blamed for the missed penalty. That goes in and there would be a different mood on HOL.

The first point is correct but he must share some blame for the lack of quality up front, assuming he has some say in transfers ? Ayew didn't even feature today.

We are like spoilt brats.
Id love a six bedroom house the same as a billion pound bench of players.

This is my view as well. The bench is nowhere near good enough and it takes a player several minutes to play themselves into the game.

Again lack of quality in the final third and a missed chance and you can see the belief draining out of the team. Only one way the game was going after that and naive to think Everton wouldn't throw everything at us in the last five minutes.

ALL of Everton's subs played their parts in the goals, Lookman,Calvert-Lewin and Tosun. They were able to bring on these attacking threats which just emphasises the paucity of our options in this area.

Signings since Hodgson has been at the club : Rakip,Jach,Guaita,Cavalieri,Kouyate,Meyer,Ayew,Sorloth.
Not much attacking strength !

It’s hard to be thankful for a forward line that probably won’t make double figures between them.

Luka scores the penalty and it's a different game.

The players gave their all for the cause and it was a disciplined performance but for all Sakho's good work he was caught ball-watching for the opening goal and didn't cover himself in glory for the second.

Hodgson's plan was working until the 87th minute so he obviously felt he would go with the players who had carried it out and not turn to his bench. And one can hardly say that he had a strong bench !

Agreed.

We were fairly comfortable up to 85 min. Not scoring the penalty was a blow, as we didn't look like scoring from open play.

EFC fan in peace....

Thought you lot were well drilled and up for it today - Zaha the most dangerous player on the field for the most part. He was clearly targeted for a bit of rough treatment and it was interesting to see Richarlison (who suffers the same treatment each week) offering his thoughts after the ~10th cynical foul. The ref should have done more to shut that down imo.

You won most of the second/loose balls and were generally 5-10% sharper (at least for the the first 45mins) in all departments.

Everton capitalised on the penalty miss and were fortunate to come away with 3 points; a draw would have been a fair result.

Keep the faith & Good luck against the gooners next week
