I'm usually optimistic about most things in life even in the dark days with Palace (e.g. Pardew losing streak etc) but currently this feels frustrating and demotivating and making me feel like f*ck it I'll stay home with the wife on Sunday.

You married to a model or took a knock to the heeed?
Home with the wife or at football watching gods team.
Take a pill and wake up.

It's not so much that we're struggling; it's that we've become boring (and in 56 years of following Palace I don't think I've ever felt that before). My wife and I actually left the Wolves game at half-time. It was partly that we were soaking wet and cold. But it was mainly that I realised after about 30 mins of watching the ball being played from Tomkins to Sakho to Van Aarnholt, back to Sakho, then to Hennessey who passes out to Wan Bissaka... that I was simply bored. Listened to the radio driving the 2 hours home and heard Wolves had scored - absolutely no surprise and no expectation that we might get one back.
The manager and chairman should take note of this thread - when fans start feeling apathetic (as against negative) the danger signals should be flashing.

I have been a Palace supporter for over 70 years and I am afraid to say that if you do not understand that moments like our recent results are part and parcel of being a proper fan you are probably a johnny come lately supporter.

On the other hand we have always had a number of supporters who are unable to get through the day without a good moan and still come back for more.

The club and the players you see now are good but sadly we make the same old mistakes in the transfer market without learning from continual repeats.

Just look at the number of times we had to seek re-election to the football league for starters or that we only had one stand. You are not trying hard enough and I have not even started on Hitler keeping the ground closed.

Its really not that bad....come on try a smile!

But the club is a completely different animal.
We have rebranded as a successful club with shiney new ground on the way & massive wage bill.
All looks great on paper..
But is like a Porsche built on a beetle chassis.
Looks great but endless disappointment when try to compete.

Perhaps there is a wider issue. For me football and the premier league is just not that exciting any more. Money has ruined the game.

There is a particular type of whingeing that seems peculiar to this season - our footy lacks a cutting edge and it is disappointing that we haven't continued last season's progress but are back to our annual sh*te start before an early Houdini act takes us flatteringly into mid table - we are the new Coventry City, or we will be if we do exaclty the same for the next 28 seasons.

The thing that's really got me down this season is the lack of atmosphere and cohesion in the fans. Absolutely toxic at the minute.

We've always been s***, and I'm fine with that, but before I would still have a great time jumping about and singing. No one joins in at the minute, and I'm finding it difficult to enjoy at the minute.

Also, we took less that 2k to Everton yesterday, probably around 1k. Shocking turnout, and I feel actually a bit embarrassed. I've also managed to buy Chelsea away tickets, whilst have 3k points... what has happened to us?

Yeah, it was such a poor attendance for such a cracking away day and ground. Loads of gaps at the back, felt half empty!

So like you,the increasing lack of enthusiasm from from fans is slowly draining my Palace mojo!

People need to chill out, have a laugh and get involved more!

I think that you are confusing forum life with real life. There are probably 22,000 Palace fans at every home game whilst there are a couple of hundred regulars on HOL and a few more than that on the BBS so there are still 21,000 that aren't into forums and probably don't give a monkeys about the HF or Block E

i think you're confusing with what you think and what you know...

This was once a quality forum....

Still better than being a plastic fan of a big club.

The day we lost the cup final all the Utd fans could do was dismiss the FA cup as not enough and wonder who the next manager would be.

Like Utd fans we’ve been spoilt a bit but in a different way. Promotion shouldn’t have come so fast as we might be paying a bit now for surviving season 1. From there it gathers momentum and supporters can bleat on about not spending, but there is a finite limit.

Not every signing works out. If they are crap they still cost money!

Being an avid supporter since the 60s, I have experienced the 'Snakes and ladders', the sunshine and showers, the peaks and troughs, the 6000 gates and several moments of abject despair with hyperventilation and steam coming out of ears common occurrences.

Avid readers of HOL will be fully aware of some of my negativity and doom-laden prognostications about our prospects but this should not be taken as any sign that my enthusiasm had diminished by difficulties at that time. Please accept this if perchance I return to glumbucket tendencies on HOL, spreading gloom and doom as I have done in the not too distant past.

Throughout all the disappointments my enthusiasm for the team has never waned with victory celebrated with some gusto and I shall continue to support the team with my customary vim and vigour until I have taken my last breath.

err, the Porsche was built on a Volkswagen chassis for many years.

Look, I get the analogy however there is no entitlement to be fighting for a top 6 or top 8 position in this league, or even to be in this league. We are a second tier side, simple as that and you can perm any 3 from 12/14 who might go down each year depending on who has a bad season out of that group.

Nothing has really changed in the last 20/30 years as far as I am concerned, as everyone just has more money. The top 6/top 8 still have proportionately more money than everyone else however. So all that has happened during those years is that the price of players has shot up in line with the increase in income. It is no more difficult or easier to buy a top player as a middling club now than it was in the past. Could we afford Trevor Francis when he went for £1m? No we couldn't, just like we can't afford Hazard, Messi, Ronaldo or any number of top players now.

We have certainly progressed as a club during that time however, although the real measure of that as far as I am concerned is:

1) whether we are solvent
2) how long we are in the top flight

On both of these measures we are having a rather successful spell so I for one am not going to complain.
