Football has changed so much since the birth of the premier league and sky. TV coverage is immeasurably better. The live attending experience is very different but probably better. The sport overall has successfully encouraged female inclusion.
Financially, football clubs have become significantly more valuable largely due to sky and sky has become significantly more valuable largely due to its viewers.
People like me, who follow football live and on sky and bt get clobbered financially like never before, but Iam getting a greater experience than ever before. Albeit very different.
I used to love the terraces and the ‘Big Match’ as much as I do the seats and sky, maybe more. But Istill love the whole new experience.
Jimmy Hill, bovril, pipes smoking, rattles, trouble, police in the grounds, much more exciting football because there were so many more mistakes, more goals, far more goalmouth action, less fit players, more mud, frost and snow. Far more gnarly.
Ultimately now, we the viewers are the ones who are funding it all. About 80% sky and 20% live, plus of course sponsors and advertisers.
Peter Scudamore has played a large part in commercialising the game to move with the way of the world which we are all paying for. Giving him £5M golden handshake, or £250k per club is such a small fraction of the overall pie I am more than happy for him to have it.
I love the tv coverage I get. All women fans should offer to double his handout. He has opened the game up for them.
Overall he has helped put football up on its current platform. Leader of sport globally by a country mile.
Costing us all a fortune but what isn’t.

What an absolute load of rubbish, the man has been well paid for being lucky enough to be in PR at the right time, why are the clubs falling into line like this, he has no doubt a pension and young enough to get another job, it is an absolute disgrace, the money should and could go to a youth project, that would be worthwhile, rather than this bloated prawn sandwich Muncher!!

Seem to remember that he's always been rather good at banging his own drum, so probably qualified there too

This is his version of the footballers 'Loyalty' Bonus or 'Signing' on fee. f*** him I am sure he'll survive. I wouldn't mind so much if all that money was going to say building a hospital wing or a school maybe they could name it after him surely a better long term legacy.

And there was me thinking he was a former jump jockey and TV racing pundit.

As Henry Winter in the Times succinctly put it:
This is two fingers up to ordinary football fan.

Disgraceful.

Probably more like a payment to keep him from writing a tell all book or some such.

If you believe the Telegraph, they claim the payment was made to dissuade him from taking a role at a foreign league (i.e La Liga) and propelling them to the top of the food chain in regards to TV deals.
So it seems it was possibly a bribe rather than a "thank you".
Of course this only what i've read and dont claim to know the proverbial in's and out's.

This is the PL reasoning, that Scudamore is a threat to PL dominance of football on TV globally.

La Liga is two or three teams, two of which do their own TV deals I believe.

I agree with Henry Winter

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
