Man does job well, gets paid millions; millionaires ask other millionaires to give more millions to millionaire for making them millions. The payment is probably just to say well done for lasting that long without getting caught spit-roasting a hooker with Sepp Blatter.

Taylors lovechild - you have summed it up brilliantly. Palace's £250k equates to about 500 season tickets. So about 500 of us have actually paid for his going away present. Excellent!

At the end of last season, it was reported that only 4 PL clubs were paying all staff the living wage.

Richard Scudamore's salary package was worth in excess of £2.5m last year.

But, yeah, let's bung him an extra £250k each.

Yep, I'd rather we shared out that amount between all the non-playing and executive staff at the club.

Optimistic as ever

If Scudamore is such a great negotiator why didn't he negotiate a better pay deal with bonuses. He has been in the job long enough.

It’s laughable really. We should tell them to do one and then bung club staff a Xmas bonus instead. The guys on 2.5 mil a year and has been for donkeys. 5mil neither here nor there to him

Football has changed so much since the birth of the premier league and sky. TV coverage is immeasurably better. The live attending experience is very different but probably better. The sport overall has successfully encouraged female inclusion.
Financially, football clubs have become significantly more valuable largely due to sky and sky has become significantly more valuable largely due to its viewers.
People like me, who follow football live and on sky and bt get clobbered financially like never before, but Iam getting a greater experience than ever before. Albeit very different.
I used to love the terraces and the ‘Big Match’ as much as I do the seats and sky, maybe more. But Istill love the whole new experience.
Jimmy Hill, bovril, pipes smoking, rattles, trouble, police in the grounds, much more exciting football because there were so many more mistakes, more goals, far more goalmouth action, less fit players, more mud, frost and snow. Far more gnarly.
Ultimately now, we the viewers are the ones who are funding it all. About 80% sky and 20% live, plus of course sponsors and advertisers.
Peter Scudamore has played a large part in commercialising the game to move with the way of the world which we are all paying for. Giving him £5M golden handshake, or £250k per club is such a small fraction of the overall pie I am more than happy for him to have it.
I love the tv coverage I get. All women fans should offer to double his handout. He has opened the game up for them.
Overall he has helped put football up on its current platform. Leader of sport globally by a country mile.
Costing us all a fortune but what isn’t.

How in heaven's name did you come up with that?

As a woman who has supported Palace (along with a number of other female cousins/wives/daughters of cousins, we have been there since the 1950's without any problem. We certainly didn't need the benefits of tv to 'open the game up' to us, and neither did the considerable number of women who sat around me in the LH from the time the new stand was built.

Unless, of course you are talking about women playing football, which is a whole different thing!

Or "gash", as Scudamore calls them.

Ask me about Ronald de Boer.

Saw something on t***ter earlier that said we were one of five clubs that have (so far) refused to pay.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

That's our January transfer budget for a new striker in its entirety, that is.

Either that, or money to spend on pies with which to lure Neil Shipperley out of retirement.

We should refuse to pay on the grounds that it would tip us over the FFP limits
