In an interview last week, Roy said he’ll be meeting with the scouting team as early as the end of November to discuss this matter. We all know the budget will be small so shrewd transfers are likely.

I can’t see us bringing in many players if I’m honest, probably a maximum of 3, and am therefore wondering what people’s realistic thoughts, ideas and preferences are...

-I can see us attempting to bring in RLC but think Chelsea will resist. The most we can hope for is a loan until the end of the season.

-There might be an attempt to move for a player of Michail Antonio’s style- pacey, powerful forward rather than an outright Striker per se

- A free or cheap mobile style striker of Jermaine Defoe’s mold as an alternative to the lumps we currently have.

I get the impression Roy will be stubborn over the matter and defiant knowing our limitations. He’ll revert back to type in that there will be regular reminders that we have Scott Dann, Connor Wickham and Christian Benteke all returning.

You may be right as we might be paying for past outlay. However when Sam took over we spent £40 million or so in Jan, as well as the Beast on loan. RLC would be an obvious recruit but cannot see Chelski releasing him now as they are challenging for the title and cups and he has put some decent performances together. Agree with the assessment of 3 max players, 2 in my opinion should be strikers with RLC the other. If RLC cannot come then happy to have 2 strikers with an increased budget. One fly in the ointment would be having to off load some strikers. Think Ayew can go back in Jan, maybe Sorloth out on loan or keep him in the 25 and have 5, meaning we have to drop somebody else or loan them out. Wickham's injury problems must be assessed as well. Looks like a busy Jan for the club.

If the budget is small all I can see is midfielders and defenders. I can't see our scouting department identifying a good affordable striker let alone signing them.

Oh ye of little faith in our recruitment process !

Heard similar sentiments a few times outside of HOL so this might the mood music at this present time.In the final analysis, financial constraints play their part in the identification process so perhaps supporters should consider this aspect before drawing conclusions.

It's a very important 'Window' for us in January and our acquisitions will determine whether we survive or plummet through that relegation trapdoor. If we are able to get players who make a difference we should be safe but if our additions are akin to the likes of Jach or Rakip and we will be in the mire.Same can be said of Ayew and many might assert Sorloth as well.

We are very well organised and despite some recent lapses we are actually much better defensively than many teams in the league, we just need at least one player who can add some real creativity to take the load off Zaha, be it a striker or a creative midfielder. Personally, if it's a striker then I would just go for an expensive short-term option of Defoe who if he stays fit will score goals given the chances, or, if we could persuade Spurs, Llorente. Now is not the time for promise or speculation, we just need someone who will have the confidence to hit the ground running. It's harder to find a creative midfielder who we could afford and who would want to come here. The best option would probably be RLC if we could get him back. One of the aforementioned strikers and RLC and I think we'll see a significantly better second half to the season.

RLC on loan
Dominic Solanke has been mentioned today, as has a 15m bid for an Argentinian striker, Sala.

Steve needs to get these Americans to part with their money on transfers next year if we are constantly scraping the barrel

SP mentioned on FYP that these moves were basically to toughen up training sessions. Surely we won't be looking for moves of this ilk in Jan ? If we can't get a player to fire some goals in attack I do hope we get somebody who can work with what we have and get some more out of them as well. Be nice to knit the team more together and could make all the difference if we cannot fix our goalscoring woes.

We have one loan space available which I’m sure we’ll try to use.
That could be used to get the likes of Solanke, RLC or Moses.
I don’t think we’ll try to buy an expensive striker unless there is no improvement to the current non-scoring positions with none of our strikers contributing.
I could see us going for Antonio as he can fulfil a number of roles as well as playing up front and he’s quick and powerful.
I don’t know the terms of Ayew’s loan - can we hand him back in January,do we have exercise an option to buy if he pays a certain number of games etc?
This will impact on what we do in January.
Also think there will be outgoings - Riedewald, Mutch, Williams, Kai Kai - to release funds/wages.

I suspect that we won't be in the market for "Expensive strikers" as we will not be shopping at the higher end stores.

Apropos departures, in the final analysis, there have to be clubs interested in players we wish to offload, besides the offloading of those mentioned won't significantly add to our coffers.

Brentford wanted Kai Kai in the summer and there is European interest in Riedewald who was seen a very promising player in Europe prior to joining us.
Williams and Mutch would possibly be loans and not sales.
The wage bill needs to be brought down if we are going to bring in new players.

Our wage bill as a proportion of income is on the high side but the players you mentioned wouldn't save the club that much when one considers the overall picture. That said, there wouldn't be too much gnashing of teeth amongst our supporters if these players moved to pastures new.
