Henry Mancini of course, the incomparable Jon Barry, Bernard Herrman (Psycho and Taxi Driver), Ted Apsleigh (Randall and Hopkirk and The Saint), Lalo Schiffrin, Quincy Jones, but for me anyone who can write The Prisoner, Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple Theme, be responsible for the original Dr Who theme thro his workshop (Deidre Derbyshire played a big part apparently) and then have the imagination to compose the perfection that is the theme to Steptoe & Son should be canonised - Ron Grainer for me, Australia's finest. Though you may disagree.

John Barry great. Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard both good. Lalo Shiffrin.
Barry Gray did a lot of old kids TV stuff.

Don't forget Mike Post so many of the great American TV show themes were composed by him such as:

Rockford Files
Magnum
Hill Street Blues
Law & Order
A Team

Eric Spear (born in Croydon) - Coronation Street

Tony Hatch - Crossroads

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

...and with wife, Jacqui Trent created the theme for Neighbours, still used after several variants!
Must rate as one of the most consistently long-running themes on television today.

Point of order, m’lud. The Miss Marple theme was by Ron (Battle of Britain) Goodwin, not Grainer.

Also, it’s Delia, not Deirdre, Darbyshire - everyone, including Grainer himself, credits her with the melodic authorship.

Edwin Astley was the composer of Randall & Hopkirk, along with most other ITC shows in the 60s.

John Barry, for me at least, is Top Boy for the superb Bond themes, The Persuaders, The Ipcress File, Out Of Africa amongst others. A f*ckin’ genius, he was.

Hans Zimmer

The last Emperor
Gladiator
Crimson Tide etc

Best has to be the score to Thelma and Louise though.

Interestingly, although Monty Norman gets the credit for penning the Bond theme, its feel and arrangement is all John Barry's. The original Monty Norman composition, called Good Sign, Bad Sign upon which it's based is, although undeniably the same tune, some distance from the finished article.
