Haven't seen this elsewhere but this is awful.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I've not seen anything confirmed about this, other than some bloke on twitter that mentioned it.

Terribly sad news. He was a main figure at Palace at a time which coincided with me getting to every away game for a number of seasons in the Mid Nineties. Got to know him a bit during that time, from the Players Lounge after home games and other Palace social events. He even got me in to a midweek away game away at The Dell once when I couldn’t get a ticket. I explained my predicament as he got off the team coach and he reappeared 5 minutes later with two tickets for the Southampton Directors box!

Thank you Darren for your dedication to our club, for ‘that’ goal and for your tenacity in the tackle. Crash bang wallop, Darren Pitcher.

Top Bloke, such a sad loss. RIP Darren.

That's terrible news. 49, no age at all. Darren always gave 100 pct for us when he played, and certainly always got stuck in ! (Scored an absolute screamer at Wolves in the cup). RIP Darren.

Ditto all the above - he was always around in the bar and ready for a chat - and yes he was a good source of tickets. I remember when he was in hospital a couple of mates went in to see him - and even managed to get a request in for a couple of spares which he managed to sort out. He case for damages against the player who ended his career was well reported at the time as he lost. Vey sad and a top guy.

I think that’s what springs to all of our minds when you first think of him, it sort of got stuck in the station at the top of the net.

Scored one of the greatest goals I remember seeing at the time against Wolves in the FA Cup. Condolences to his family.
