What has he done that's deserving of criticism to the extent that Gazza did?

He behaves in that immature manner with a disregard for money pretty similarly to how Gascoinge did. Apart from being overpaid he also isn't a good role model for his youthful community by getting a gun tattoo when many young black men his age are dying violently.....Gascoigne was also criticised for being a poor role model.....like many footballers have been before him and after him.

Besides what's this idea that a journalist has to perfectly fit a justification for what they write. This isn't China and if they commit libel Sterling has the money to take them to court.

Sterling deserves no more protection from the media than any other public figure does. Like I say, if they commit some provable injustice against him, let him take them to court.

Thanks, I’ll be sure to point it out every time you give your subjective opinion on something as well.

I think you can very objectively compare the conduct of Gascgoine and Sterling as professionals, and they are miles apart.

I’ve never said that Sterling isn’t deserving of criticism, nor that it’s racist to criticise him.

Sure....just as I think your criticism of Paul Gascoigne is over the top, I also have no problems with you criticising him......the guy has had many problems.....as he also had many advantages and screw ups.

Like buying his mum a house? What other outrageous purchases has he made or things he's done to show a disregard for money?

He was forced to issue a statement to clarify that his gun tattoo was a tribute to his late Dad, who was shot dead back in Jamaica when Raheem was 2 and as a reminder of how his life could have turned out if he were not a footballer.

Literally all you've done with your post is highlight his exact point; the media narrative about him hits home.

A number of the Sterling articles were ridiculing his spending habits such as shopping at primark or Poundland and flying with EasyJet - does that sound like he has a disregard for money? I think you’re really clutching at straws with that.

Similarly, it’s telling you insinuate that was all a Gascgoine was guilty of.

The gun tattoo is probably the only time I could say Sterling has justifiably been criticised for off-field behaviour, and even then I think it’s a debatable one - I’m pretty sure we all went back and forth on the tatto at the time so I won’t go into it again, but I’ll acknolwedge that was worthy of criticism at least.

Again, I don’t think anyone is suggesting Sterling deserves more protection than anyone else - only that he is judged by the same standards as his colleagues.

?

The media is perfectly entitled to criticise all that and more if it wants to. It doesn't have to satisfy you or me or anybody else. You present his justifications for his behaviour....he hasn't just brought his mum a house....We hear all the other stuff like using hookers.

It means nothing to me, I don't care....but it annoys me when the attitude from lefties is....'oh don't criticise him, because racism', 'but we'll decide when you're being racist, so watch you words'.

Nothing but a powerplay for the already powerful.

If the media lies and can be proven so let him take them to court.

That is your subjective opinion. Are you suggesting that Sterling isn't deserving of criticism? I certainly disagree with you.

But nobody is saying Sterling (or any other black player) isn't deserving of criticism at times. What IS being said is that when two players have done the same thing they are not treated nor reported the same way.

Here's a recent example of how language makes a difference:

Cherry pick.

I'll state it again, and as many times as it needs to be said. Pretty much all known footballers get criticised but only black footballers get to use the race card or get their allies using it for them to censor others.

Pure power play.

Acting like the inquisition and pretending to know what is in the minds of men.

I've just shown how Sterling has probably spent some of his money.

I don't care what Gascgoine or Sterling get up to and I'm not a fan of the gutter press either.....but I'm even less of a fan of people looking to censor journalists because 'I think you're racist for saying, 'insert' anything'.....Don't you see how that can be abused?

The courts are open to the rich and powerful. If the press have treated him worse than others and have lied about him.....Let him use them.

I'm not sure that comparison you linked helps your argument. For a start it is only one example which doesn't prove the point at all and second, it really doesn't suggest racism or even matches in terms of the stories purpose. One is about a player buying a house for his Mum. (How nice of him). And the other is saying that a player who isn't even in the first team can afford to spend that much money. (Modern football has gone mad)

Looking for racism is an obsession for some people.

You would have been quite happy if the latter was about a White player no doubt.

I’d never actually seen that story so I’m glad you shared it - I certainly don’t take issue with that being reported nor with him being criticised for it.

You don’t care what they get up to, yet you knew enough to state that he behaves in an immature manor with disregard for money - bit of a contradiction.

Of course I see how it can be abused, but that also doesn’t give them free reign to do whatever they want - as with most things, it’s a balance.
