Glad to see that there are some fellow fan who remember the impact Vince had on the club.
If anyone is looking for idea for their Christmas list, we have just released our first design of t-shirts featuring the team of the 80’s,
Have a look and let us know what you think.

Vince was interviewed by Ian Wright in the first of 3 ITV documentaries on early racism in professional football. A good watch. Worth finding on itv player or wherever.

The brown boy on the wing was and probably still is my favourite player. I was chatting to a portsmouth fan the other week - Vince is now a matchday ambassador for portsmouth. Do we have matchday ambassadors??

Following Palace since 25 Feb 1978

We have a guest each home game. Neil Shipperley today. I think there may be a few who chat to people in the boxes. I think Jim Cannon might be one.

Vince in that documentary talking about Paul Cannervil getting racist abuse warming up as a sub at Selhurst for Chelsea was something else. Scvm.

Yeah the description may seem OTT but we wanted to get across that the tshirts are not printed on the classic cheap Gildan tshirts and are instead on much better quality tshirts.

Sorry folks. I used to love Vince in his day but Wilf is much better. He does stuff that very few can do. If only he had more of a football brain he would be one of the best. Sadly he does not have the vision of a Hazzard or a Messi but we are very lucky to have him none the less.

Hilaire was kept out of the England squad by Steve Coppell whereas Wilf's attitude did for him. A great pity for both.

I agree with you regarding Sir Wilfred Zaha, I do not doubt that he is up there with some of the greatest players we have had at the club. But, perhaps due to my old man banging on about Palace being the 'Team of the 80's' I may have been brainwashed into believing him. Or it could be because Wilf is playing in a team that hasn't quite managed to achieve the same level as success as that of Vince Hilaire and Co.

I'm not sure about that. Vince was in the team that won promotion in 1979 (just as Wilf was in the side that won promotion in 2013), and then was part of the side that had a great start in the 1st Division 79/80. However, after Christmas performances tailed off and Palace ended up with a mid-table finish. The following season Palace were relegated.

This time around, with Wilf, we have had several mid-table finishes ( admittedly after poor starts)and survived, to date, 6 seasons in the top flight.

I saw Vince play many times but I think Wilf, when on form, edges it.

I’m too young for vince but I think a fairer comparison for those who supported palace from 90s onwards would be attilio lombardo, purely because both are wingers, anyone?

I’d say Wilf has more tricks and pace but attilio had a better footballing brain, up there with zidane, hoddle etc. Not in same class but same level of pre thought on what pass to play. He was always one step ahead. Felt sorry for him really, all the rest of the palace players just weren’t able to play one twos with him etc. They just weren’t in his class.

I'm new here and an armchair fan - but I do care (wish I didn't). I'm also a pessimist so, a probable typical fan.

Vince was a delight. Magic ball skills and thrilled the fans. Not sure how that converted to goals though and Vince didn't score a lot himself. I think in spite of his magic feet he lacked that self belief and arrogance that forwards need. But back in those days he'd come in the Palace bar and chat with fans with his half of Stella. Whatever, Vince is a Palace legend.

Wilf, I think has more confidence than Vince and maybe that gives him the edge. Dunno really but I hope he realises his best way to attract a big club (unlike Everton) is to excel at Palace.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.
