I wouldn't class those league positions as "just staying up". We may not do well all season, but we are fighters and our players do not give up.

Those positions hardly tell the full story.

Overall, were we comfortably bobbling around mid table for the season, finishing bottom of a mid table pack all challenging for the Europa cup place, or just pipping the relegation pack with a game or two to spare?

Let's not kid ourselves. 2014/15 should've been the benchmark to build from, instead it's been a slog to remain in the division every time.

Be that as it may, saying Hodgson built a career on just staying up, is very misleading.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

What would be a kinder term, mediocrity?

He had a great season with Fulham kudos for nearly winning the uefa cup.

Like I said, he's perfect for model of treading water.

Have a gander at his Wikipedia page and see what you think.

He had done a tiny bit in his career before Fulham.

Wiki profile? That's what I'm basing the mediocrity on!

Well said.

Every manager has a limited lifespan, the players on the pitch are making opportunities to score and they are then missing them, Hodgson is watching them miss along with the board ..so lets blame them.

We're as good as Roy is going to get, and he's as good as we're going to get until the higher ups get our recruitment strategy right.

So are you inferring that Steve Parish is content with '' treading water '' and therefore Roy is his ideal manager ?

So it's The Board at fault then and not Roy ?

I find the idea that we should be a stable mid-table team by now odd. There really is no such thing -- if you are out of the top 6, you pretty much will go down some time. (Barring billionaire infusion, and even then the FFP rules make it harder now to do a Man City or Chelsea and hide all the investment --even their dirty tricks are starting to come to light.

Look at the teams that were Premier league when we came up in 2013.
Still here: ManCity, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, Spurs, United, Southampton, West Ham, and Palace. The last three teams have all spent a good amount of time in the relegation zone the past 6 seasons.

Got relegated but got back up: Cardiff, Newcastle, Fulham

Relegated: Stoke, Swans, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Hull, WBA, Norwich.

We are in some pretty good company, it won't last forever, but I've enjoyed the 6 seasons, and I'm going to continue to enjoy the ride.

We'll look back at this run as our best ever.
