It has a strong hoppy and bitter taste that says 'ale' in a very traditional way.

I don’t know if it still is, but this was sold as Sainsbury’s own brand.

If you have an ALDI nearby, try the badger ales they have on offer at just over a £1 each. Fursty Ferrett and Hopping Hare are both good ales...enjoy

Depends what type of beer you like to imbibe? Harveys provide a takeaway range from golden to black and they are all delicious:

Gold Bier [Link]

Malt Brown [Link]

Black Stout [Link]

However, if you want a draught ale and know a pub that serves Harveys ... "Old" is the seasonal dark ale which is usually provided alongside their usual "Sussex". Again, both are very pleasant.

I'll have a sniff down at the local Tesco's and see what recommendations from the thread I can add to the series chaps.

Today is the turn of a craft beer 'Old Golden Hen'....from the same location where the 'Old Speckled Hen' is brewed...Oxfordshire.

This has quite a mild taste in terms of hops and after taste though is a bit over fizzy for my tastes.

An inoffensive 6.

I like real ale a lot, but of you're going to enjoy it at it's best it has to be draught in a pub that knows how to look after living, breathing nectar.

If you're going to tesco, try Proper job, St Austell brewery, my favourite at the moment, if you are in Asda or Morrisons, try Headspace, Mkewans brewery, Scotch flavoured ale, very moreish, but as an earlier posted suggested any Westerham Brew Will hit the spot, happy drinking

Late posting this one.

Thought I'd try one of the recommendations that I saw in Tesco's....Adnam's Ghost Ship.....which is a pale ale from Suffolk.

Sadly this one wasn't my bag, and had a zesty taste....Still, booze is booze and all goes down the same way...hic.

A 6.

I don't drink much beer nowadays but agree with Chris that the very best beers are sold on draught in a pub and not in bottles.

Now if you want to start a thread on gin tasting I can certainly contribute there quite a bit
