I'll start this by saying that I have only ever travelled to 'Western' countries and so this may not be a relevant solution for all situations, but what about... Or is that too simple (or complicated)? Originally posted by Spiderman

Why don't they have electronic gates immediately people step off the plane it would automatically take your photo and fingerprints so even if you have ditched your passport we would know what plane they arrived on. Having said that I have been involved in cases where we have found concrete evidence that a passenger had come from a specific country ie hotel receipts, photos but that country refused to take them as we could not show an arrival stamp in the passport.

Numerous Central Americans arriving at Gatwick having transitted and changed in Spain, no stamp from Spain not accepted back

Do you remember when you were young and went on a school trip to a foreign country? The teacher used to collect the passports and hand them over en block to whoever needed to see them. So, if the airline held the passports at gate departure and was responsible for handing them over on arrival... Originally posted by Spiderman

We had one when we got taken to see the glories of the newly built Thamesmead.
