The big German sides are being very crafty. They can carry a talented kid -- just like our top sides can in certain games. So they go after the cream of the academies where the players have interesting contract situations. No idea how much longer we have Kirby, but our huge weakness as a club is not really being able to risk competitive minutes for younger players. It's one reason I'd like to see a European friendly ladder that Palace could participate in. Say about 10 games a season for fringe 1st team, reserve and youth players. I really feel that the amount of subs allowed should be increased to five, ..also if a red card is issued the punished side can only allow teenage (academy) players to be used as subs for the rest of the game.

Kirby came on after 76 mins. Looked enthusiastic, wanted the ball. Won the penalty - he was sent on to make a difference and he did. He took the ball off the designated pen taker as he wanted it, which again shows his enthusiasm. Our captain took it back and gave it to Pritchard (who thankfully scored). Kirby was the first to congratulate him which shows some maturity and no sulking. Manager seemed quite amused by all this but said it didn't work like the school playground lol. So, a promising debut.

Nya Started his first match today and played 72 minutes against Charlton. On the 72nd minute at the same time he was subbed off Jonny Williams came off for Charlton. I only read the text updates but he had a few shots and won a few free kicks. Match finished 0-0 sounds like Williams was in good form as well. Hopefully Nya can get a run in the team, it will be massive for his development.

He played well yesterday but ran out of steam a bit which is why he went off. Given we had our two main midfielders out he was trusted to step up and gave a pretty mature performance. Had lots of encouragement from our Manger. He did try some trickery to beat his man, which he did but unfortunately beat himself too and forgot to take the ball with him! We like him and look forward to seeing more of him. And - the fans might be back for the next home match to give him more encouragement. Just to add: Edited by seasider (18 Feb 2019 10.14am)

Do you think he will be able to get a string of starts together between now and the end of the season or do you predict him to drop back to the bench?

We have a lot of injuries at the moment so there is plenty of opportunity for him. He looks very keen to do well on the pitch and the manager seems pleased with him. I would say most Pool fans are not enamoured with Liam Feeney, who I guess would be his main rival for a place. McPhillips seems to be easing him in gently, which is no bad thing.
