I've just thought of a solution for the kids that come on their own and obviously don't have a card to pay for food and drink.

I'll take their cash and pay on my card.....but I'll charge 10% transaction fee. A £4.50 burger will cost them £4.95.

This time next year Rodney.......

You'd better get used to it as that's the direction that the country is moving in.

We flew back from Alicante with BA a couple of months ago and that is a completely cashless airline

Thats recent. It wasn't in November.

Most machines operate on 4g so extremely unlikely. They are not on specific networks and pick up any available network. Besides, If there was a serious power cut or the broadband goes down there would be far bigger issues then whether you could pay for a warm
Beer.

Its all very well saying a cash transaction takes longer and is therefore more expensive, but what about the bank charges the club suffers for every card transaction?

VISA systems went down Europe wide not so long ago, as did the O2 4G network on another occasion.

Serious issue or not, you're knackered there and then if it happens at the time that you require it if you cannot use an alternative like actual cash.

It already doesn't work well for tourists.

Didn't work out well for people with money in Cyprus either when they decided to have bank levy to fix their financial problems.

All of this.
The most sensible post here.

Walking blind-fold into a cashless society ie handing over much of your wealth to a third party who can put a stop to any transaction with the flick of a switch................is just nuts.

Buy Litecoin.

Yep. On top of that why would anyone want their lives tracked any more than they already currently are.

What, when and where you buy anything is nobodies business but your own.

Ever had your bank cards stopped because you've been abroad? The banks tend to ask why you didn't inform them that you would be. Because it's none of your f***ing business, that's why.

As I said, most card machines work on phone signal such as 3G or 4G and are not linked to a particular network, they tap into any available network. So if one network went down (as per o2) then it just moves to the next available network thus eliminating that problem. In terms of card fees, they will work our considerably less than cash banking facilities.

As I said, I have a fair bit of experience in similar field and I can’t stress how much time and effort (and therefore cost) it is to process cash payments on this type of scale.

Most networks piggyback on others, there's less than a handful of options for them to use. A bit like the BT landline network going down would wipe out most ISPs.

I'm talking about card fees for the buyers/users as well as the sellers. If you think they'll stay considerably less once there are limited options you're deluded.

I couldn't care less about the time, cost and effort to process cash for others. If I can't spend my money how I want to, or in the form I want to, they be getting any of it.

Whether you care less about it or not, it makes sense for the club to operate in that way and more and more places will adopt it as it makes business simpler. I would guess the club will bank on some like yourself refusing to buy anything for a few weeks and having a little protest but it will still be more cost effective for them even without those purchases. You may just want to take a card with you just incase the first home game of next season is played in sweltering heat and you need a bottle of water!
