Here's my view.

Roy sets the team up, plays an active part in training and come match day that group of players are ready to compete and know what they have to do.

Outside of a core of the starting eleven plus one or two others, he hasn't got too many options. We have lacked game changers on the bench because the squad is light on quality. Hence the reluctance to use subs, although I think he could change things at least to give the opposition a different player to deal with.

But you can't hold him responsible for Ward and Sakho missing free headers - potential 4 more points. Or Zaha unable to score one on one's - point lost last Saturday - and there have been others. The stats show - and we can see for ourselves - that chance creation is not an issue but the finishing.

Unless I'm mistaken, after the Solanke deal fell through we were told there were five strikers on our wanted list. Where are they ? Or is the return of Benteke mean that we aren't looking any more ?

At Selhurst this season there have been two abject performances - Southampton and Chelsea. We got what we deserved from those games.

So yes, Roy's stats don't look great but they do not reflect the overall performance of the players.

Bang on. I’d add to that that for large parts of this season the football has been quite attractive as well.

Last season, yes. This season, no. And the best bits haven’t lasted for anything like large parts of the season. They’re few and far between. What has improved is the passing and ability on the ball at the back and in midfield so far up the field. It’s when it goes beyond here that we come short, and that’s because of the board, transfer policies and now being hamstrung as well as Hodgson. I’m not saying sack him, but I’m not kidding myself it’s great because it isn’t, and we should be seriously looking for a successor now for when he’s needed and not then.

It’s all well and good that a lot of people think he’ll leave at the end of the season but how much closer to the relegation zone do we need to be to take some action THIS SEASON.

We are dangerously close to be cut adrift with the the bottom 7 teams to scrap it out. I genuinely think he might only have 4 league games left (Liverpool-A, Saints- A, Fulham - H, West Ham- H) and has to get a minimum of 6 points.

Parish won’t sack Hodgson in the very near future unless the Americans say so and are putting up loads for transfers, but they won’t be doing the latter so no chance.

Who would we replace him with, Sam? Pulliss? Someone who will require a large transfer kitty? SP and the Yanks haven't provided sufficient funds for significant signings for 3 windows. Paying him off will scupper any new signings, along with coaching staff.... watching question time and realised Diane Abbott looks like Flash out of Zootropolis, about as incentive as well...hope we beat the Scourers

In which case I assume that you would be advocating Benitez getting the sack at Newcastle if you followed them.

And if you were a Burnley fan then you would have sacked Dyche a few weeks back.

As someone who seems to want Hodgson out, I ask again - who would you replace him with ?

Roy is directly responsible for setting the team up, directing training and instructing the coaching.

Therefore, he is directly responsible for the lack of ability of top, top players being unable to convert chances.

Why can't we finish? Because it's not being drilled into the team. It is absolutely criminal that we had 30 odd chances Vs Burnley and converted 2.

There is plan A and plan.... A. Yes, there's not strength in depth in the squad, fair enough. That said, it is apparent that our players spend all week practicing more without the ball than with it. It's about structure and shape. Great base, but after all the missed chances surely, the emphasis should be on finishing? Just get the wingers to practice putting the ball in/ making the correct decision regarding shots Vs passing and have the strikers (whoever plays that role) working on creating space and finishing. Stay onside and in the box!!!!

A training game of headers and volleys wouldn't go a miss ffs.

Strikers in general do the "finishing" we don't have any strikers fit or good enough.

Being cut adrift with the bottom 7 is not an issue. Being cut adrift with the bottom 3 is, and we are nowhere near that.

Huddersfield and Fulham look doomed. We have more points on the board and superior goal difference to Cardiff, Southampton, Newcastle, Burnley and quite frankly we are better than all of those teams and all of them would have to get above us in the table.

We have strikers returning to fitness and are playing well as a team. Chance conversion is our only problem. Some of the panic and cries to sake the manager on here are quite baffling.

Not at all. I dont have a burning hatred of Hodgson at all i just think people need to wake up and realise we are in real danger of relegation this season. We cant just write off teams because they have had a bad 1st half to the season. West Brom were pretty much buried last season but still managed 11 points from the final 6 games so saying Fulham and Huddersfield are already gone is incredible naive.

Definitely not saying we should even contemplate the managerial dinosaurs- Hughes, Pardew, Allardyce, Pulis- but if we do slip closer to the relegation zone then changing the manager is likely to be the only option.

I would want Wilder(Sheff Utd), Rodgers (Celtic), Garcia (Marseille), Wenger (short term), Karanka (free) but its not my call.

Another piece just released this morning showing how much we're underachieving. Oh yeah you can't criticise roy, from Croydon, speech impediment and an old man so he gets a free ride.

I only skimmed the piece but I'm struggling to see how marquee signings on big wages bought pre-Hodgson strengthens the "Hodgson out" argument?
