Interested to come across this piece in the SLP about Roy Hodgson's favourite authors.

[Link]

Has anyone read anything by the writers Hodgson likes? J.P. Donleavy, John Updike, Philip Roth, Stefan Zweig, Joseph Roth, Vargas Llosa, Garcia Marquez or Saul Bellow?

Any recommendations?

Not a big reader but I loved the Roald Dahl books, 'Boy' and 'Going Solo' are brilliant.

Poe, forever talent. Pathed the way for many thriller/dark writers to this day.

You just have - nevr read any Jacki Collins or Jilly Coopr, I don't know why I mentioned this cos I never will. I think authors rarely write more than one good book, make their name then it's emperor's new clothes for all the stuff they have to write rather than what they want to write - exceptions? Dostoyewsky and Kurt Vonnegut
