Out of interest, I thought I'd check Emiliano Sala's official Twitter page to see what his profile said.

For what it's worth, his bio reads:

Futbolista profesional @cardiffcityfc #BlueBirds ex @fcnantes

I'm not sure how much clearer it needs to be. He was Cardiff City's player. They need to pay up.

People can write whatever they want on twitter. It will come down to the contract finer details. That’s what contracts are for.

Surely all players must be insured by the club who employ them?.

So the contract was rejected by the Premier League because it contravened signing on fee rules.

It looks like that resulted in the conditions precedent not being fulfilled

Effectively that means no contract was completed.

And a non contracted player can’t be insured by the club. Nor, in my experience, by any other employer.

I realise that. It is at least noteworthy though that there is no ambiguity in his own Twitter bio about his being a Cardiff City player and no longer being with FC Nantes. As far as he was concerned, the deal had been done.

This incident may be a milestone for player contracts and insurance policies..

I would refrain to accuse Cardiff before seeing details of the contract and rights etc. They may be fully right on paper.

However, after all world witnessed that Sala went back to France to say goodbye, jumping on a weird jet to go back again to Cardiff, all the emotional moments in Cardiff stadium which embraced him after his death... Claiming that "he was not our player thus we are not paying" sounds a bit coarse.

The payment was to be between the clubs

No contract, no payment.

Maybe it can be shown that de facto there was a contract. Otherwise Cardiff are correct in their stance

I just browsed news.

- Nantes claims that his transfer`s certificate was issued by FIFA.

- Meanwhile Premier League refused the contract and sent back for amendment.

- This amendment has not been signed by Sala yet due to tragic event.

There seems to be separate routes for transfer processes that FIFA prepared certificate although PL didn`t approve. Nantes claims that Premier League`s refusal is a domestic process which should concern Cardiff.

I still have a feeling that Cardiff is looking for a loophole.

Cardiff should be deducted 10 points for milking the situation emotionally. Not our player, no??
Hope they go down, and down again and rot in league 2.

I think in international transfers, a player can't be registered as bought or sold by the relevant associations until FIFA have issued the certificate - which I understood FIFA confirmed had been issued.

A verbal contract if proven is as good as any in a court of law.
Cardiff will end up paying a high price if in real terms or morals.

A verbal contract, of course. An oral contract not at all.
