If he has any ambition he will probably go in the summer. However going by his difficulty in settling in the North I think he will probably stay in the Premiership with a London club. Good luck to him and remember the club is bigger than any individual. We will survive COYP

I hope he does go and somewhere he can play with his peers.
As for Palace there are teams in the premiership that don’t have a “Wilf” and do quite well. It would help us even out and vary our playing style if some competent signings are completed.

I’m sure Pep would make him better, he only needs to be told to get his body over the ball when he shoots, then he won’t keep kicking it over the bar.

But even if they were interested, which they aren’t. With Sane and Sterling starting , how many wingers do they need on the bench? Think he’d be there 4th choice winger , getting a few cup games.
He’s doesn’t like Manchester either, since Moyes daughter left

That's always been the lads weak point. He can run fast but his legs aren't that strong and so he's always relied on body weight to get power behind a shot, whether it's a pirouette to get his shoulder into it as we always used to see (but only means he now has his back to any possible rebounds) or, like you say, leaning back. Many of his goals hit the roof of the net but only from 7-8 yards out.

As for the course of the thread it's self, I can't help but feel that a large amount of the "he's not actually that good" crowd are just saying it to be controversial. Goals-to-game ratio for a winger (a winger that's been played out of position for a lot of the season) isn't really a just criticism and I think if he were to leave we'd have an incredibly hard time replacing him (and perhaps later even referred to as "Pardew'd"! )

Let's say Wilf had the same career, but with watford/west ham and he was up for sale to the right bidder - we wouldn't even be looking at him, we would be saying, oh it be nice, but realistically, he is too good for us and also, not the sort of player we need. I hope that makes sense to a lot of people... we need a more complete squad and a squad that complements Wilf. We currently do not. We very nearly can... but that would mean breaking the bank again and we can't do it.

How much did Andros cost us, he has been just fine for us, imagine another Andros in Wilf's place, with the other midfielders we have and then imagine two strikers firing on all cylinders!
It seems more complete and less.... drama.

Meyer needs to be the key, build/work around him

This is becoming a thread of the deluded.

Wilf is the difference between survival and relegation make no mistake.

We have won one game without him ever.

You cannot just replace players like him because you have money to spend at a modest club like ours.

Talking of reason what reason would Wilf have to stay if he’s serious about his career. Doesn’t really matter if he’s the reason we’re still in PL if he wants to leave. The thing is he is irreplaceable so let’s build a team that spreads the responsibility. As I said before lots of teams don’t have a “Wilf”.

Certainly penalties won are out of the stats as he is involved in more goals then figures credit him for.
Flabbergasted about people wanting to sell our only attacking threat and him having roots at the club apparently does not seem of interest to a lot of people either.
And all this talk about investing wisely..... one Sessegnon and it will be gone. One Lookman or Gray and you may have change for a Championship striker.
If we were to sell in the summer, we need to buy his replacement before he goes as prices will inflate dramatically.

His goals/assist per game ratio really isn't as bad as you suggest. Some key considerations:

1) He plays in a really mediocre goal-shy team. If the team finishes better he gets more assists. Similarly this stat is impeded by playing for a relegation straggler with limited possession per game. If he plays for a top club then naturally the stats go up as the team he is playing for are in the final third that much more. Additionally you can't triple mark him at a good side whereas he is constantly swarmed with us as they know they can, to a certain extent ignore Ayew etc.
2) He isn't a striker. Simply looking at goals returns (or even goals and assists) ignores the work he actually does. Let's cherry-pick a different arbitrary stat to prove why he's great instead. He is the 2nd most fouled player in the country behind Hazard. He gets us up the pitch and gives the defence a breather consistently with his ability to retain possession and win fouls under constant pressure from multiple players.

Love the idea that Wilf who has been our best player by an absolute country mile for 3 years "isn't the sort of player we need" and yet we should build a team around Meyer, who has been here for four months (and has been average at best in that period).

I wish it was as easy as just "imagining" two strikers firing on all cylinders for it to be so. Unfortunately we have two strikers who are often injured and can't score when they are fit. Buying proven goalscorers in this league is insanely expensive. We could barely afford one with the money from Wilf let alone two and this is the whole point. We would never be able to replace Wilf with similar quality as a player of Wilf's quality wouldn't sign for Palace!

I do definitely agree with the requirement for a more rounded squad. My concern is that that doesn't happen overnight and during that process, without Wilf and based on previous form, we would go down.

Explain.

You don't seem to understand that finding players of his quality at a club like ours is a once in a generation event.
You can't just sign a Zaha or a Hazard because you have money in the bank. They won't come to Palace.

You don't win games by having eleven average players. You have to have someone or two who occupy defenders and take the pressure of your own defence.

Surely you watch the PL every week.
